Mora Mania -- Trying Out Some Carbon Blades

I think most moras come with a micro bevel. Mine did anyway. I have my mora zero ground, but am going to put a micro bevel back on my kellam wolverine

Yeah, every single Mora I have had my hands on lately, and I have handled about 45 of them, has had a micro-bevel.

Best,
Marion

The 510 saw some action as an apple-pie knife. While peeling apples, I was really impressed with how this little blade felt in hand. It actually fills the hand better than any paring knife we have in the kitchen.

Thanks for the info & pics Guyon. MMMMmmm apple pie... *mouth waters*

I qualify as one of those people Gadgetaholic was mentioning, and I've been looking at the selction of Mora's out there. Even though if I had the $, it'd sure be easy to become a knifeaholic, I'm always looking for more bang for the buck. I've got my eyes on the 840 Clipper & the 711.

Interested in the Martiini comparison. I just recently ordered a Mora 911 and 511, and didn't get the martiini because I read that it used a much cheaper chinese steel.
I like the grip and shorter blade a lot, though.
Tang length is basically the same on 510, 511, 711, and 911 models, right? (I ordered the KJ Erikkson models).

Dont you mean L to R?

I could be wrong, (happens all the time LOL) but I think something is wrong.. Maybe?

Where did you read that about the steel?

I've got a lower-end, puukko-style Martiini and if the steal is cheap and Chinese then it doesn't show. It might be a little on the soft side but holds it's edge as well as several of my more expensive knives.

I just ordered that #760 in orange/orange from Ragnar. I had somehow missed it when I bought my orange Clipper. I only wish it came in high carbon or laminated. :(

Do the ones with the wider edges have thicker blades or are the edges ground at a shallower angle?

I used my stainless steel clipper last night, it didn't seem as sharp as I like, so a minute or 2 with a strop and it was back to its normal 'scary sharp' self. I only have a couple of Moras but in my experience they are the easiest knifes to make very sharp - it really takes no effort at all.

I just got my 511 and 911 and they are scary sharp, by far the sharpest knife straight out of the sheath that I have ever bought. Only bummer is the 911 does not hold in the sheath, falls out really easy. No doubt I'll end up ordering a leather sheath somewhere...
911 is super comfortable, and the 511 feels pretty great to.
I'm hooked.
Now...maybe that Mora 2000.....

Most def the M2K ;)

Also, you could take a heat gun or blow dryer to the sheath...warm it up and form it a little..that'd help and save u some coin over a leather sheath...YMMV

I used a combination of Marttiini blades this deer season. A Inox little classic for field dressing and Inox skinner for skinning. Both worked great. The Marttiini's tend to have better sheaths.

I recently received a single 510. I really like it. I also received a couple of 511s. It only takes about 10 minutes to make a 511 iinto a 510. It may not be cosmetically perfect but you don't buy a Mora for looks.

I was partial to the 840 carbon but now I'm liking the 511's.

The 711 is decent but I really don't like the spongy handle.

The only stainless Mora that I care for is the 2000, or the Mora survival knife. Very pretty blade, relatively decent sheath.

Like a couple of other members I've been playing with kydex and am impressed how servicable these knives are with a little better sheath.

The carbon steel is the way to go!
