Mora... not impressed.

A few people have reported the same overheating problem with Gerber/Fiskars Hatchets.
I've never had any problems with my Fiskars and Moras, but then again, the first thing I do when I get a knife is put on a new edge.

never been a fan of mora knives .... I have a buddy that loves 'em(Mora 2k) but to me they look cheap and priced cheap....just not something I would ever pack or carry not even as a back up to a back up . Some like them some do not to each his/her own.

I've got one of the black handled TriFlex Moras and it has always performed well. Then again I paid 12 bucks for it (shipped), so it's not like I'm trying to put it through a 3" log, either.

I just got my first mora (10 minutes ago) and you must have got a dud...LOVE this thing M2K!

The gear you recomended wasn't all it was cracked up to be... what do you want me to do about it? I'm a troll because the edge on a Mora rolled? LMAO... OK. Whatever. Some of you guys on this forum are pretty pissy.

I took this as a legitimate question and your responses have been valid. Maybe those calling you are troll should look in the mirror. - and thanks to all those that advised on the occasional soft 1/16" problem on factory edge. Explains the Fiskar problem some of the boys had

Yeah... I've noticed that the same 4 or 5 members on here will give you the old Troll award if you don't subscribe to their line of thinking, dare question their dogma, or even think for a second that you might have a different idea. I've been accused of starting fights when all I've done is dare question what people say. Doesn't matter... like I said... it's only a handful of members. Not enough to ruin the forum.

I have found the rest of the guys here to be nice and very helpful.

I figure as much... I really doubt a bunch of people go on and on about these knives if they were no better than chinesse steak knives. I'm gonna keep working on it and see if I can uncover some harder steel at the edge. I mean it wasn't a huge investment but I hate something that seems to work for everyone else not work for me LOL.

Hmm. This fellow doesn't scan like a troll to me. :)

As for the edge issue ... I've had this happen on plenty of knives, though not on a Mora. Possibly because I've only ever had one Mora (and I obviously just got lucky).

I was just surprised to hear siguy say it was a common thing.

perhaps not as common as i thought...

maybe i should have said that it's not surprising, instead of saying that its common.

No problems with my mora#1 triflex that way. Carves wood and makes fuzzies like the dickens. I did put it to a diamond stone just to get it a bit sharper. The mora #1 is my best woodworking tool, but I hate the look of its thin blade. I'm a bit like texas. I just doesn't go in the pack with me. Not that I don't have confidence in it. It just doesn't really tweak my knife loven' interest. I'd much rather use my more expensive knives. Maybe that's being elitist. Oh well, like my dad told me once, son its never a bad thing to be elite :D :D :D

Me.
I'm a ten dollar knife. You may have to push me to work like you want. If you throw me away, I bet someone will find a use for me :)
I have friends that are three hundred dollar knives. They WILL be expected to work, perfectly, all the time. No-one will ever admit they didn't work out, they are pretty, tough, able as Guaranteed.

I get to cut the cheese the most though;)

I have lots of Mora knives. I have three that I have been using for 8 years or so. I use them every year as a deer hunting guide. I have probably field dressed and skinned 200 mule deer with them. Never carried a back up to the Mora in the field and when used for that purpose or for cutting chores, I would put them up against any knife under 150.00. They will cut as good as any knife I have used and six pulls through the EdgeMaker pro after two or three deer and you can shave with it again. When I got these they were about 6 or 7 dollars. Guess that makes them elite among knives. One of the most used is a NO-1 Laminated, One the SS Clipper and one Carbon clipper.

For those who knock them or don't want to use them, I thank you. Thanks for not driving up the price for those of us who do. My dad always said why use a dollar for what you can do with a dime.;)

Allright, dammit. Now I've got to try this myself. Where is a good place to the the Edgemaker Pro? I'm not a big Mora fan either, part of it is how long it takes to sharpen that large bevel. This tool sounds like I can spend very little time sharpening one, then I might like them more... Any recommendations? Thanks!

There's something wrong with that knife. Red handled Moras are always carbon steel, blue are always stainless steel. If the blade says stainless then you got some kind of Frankenmora. Where did you buy it from?

They screw up the colors sometimes. Ragnar's carbon blade/OD handle 760s are a good example.

I agree on the "bad steel at the edge" theory. They get them a bit too hot and the edge gets tempered too much. The Fiskars axes are another good example of this.

I really love my Bark River Bravo-1's, my RC-3, my custom DHLK from Bryan Breeden, my Spyderco Manix,...................... but here's the thing. For 20 years or more, all I ever used was a Mora. I didn't know a Mora from an Oldsmobile. One year at a local outdoor store, they had them on sale for, I think, $7.98 or some such (what's that about 85 cents U.S.) so I bought a couple.

They worked so well, I bought a couple more, and I would have bought even more if they still carried them. At the time, I did not have the benefit of being a member here and enjoying the combined wisdom of all the knife knuts (of which I guess I are one now :o), didn't know what a scandi grind was. I had a Spyderco V sharpener and sharpened them with a secondary bevel. What the hell did I know?

The funny thing is they made a hell of a lot of fire boards, drills, trap parts, atlatls, cut shoots for arrows, atlatl darts, baskets, and so on. I guess they didn't know they weren't any good. :(

So now I have graduated to the aforementioned knives - the Barkies, RAT's and Breedens, and I love them all, but you know, none of them out cut the Moras. Funny that!

BTW, here's a picture of them. :D

Actually, I've heard that that's how they're generally regarded over in Sweden.

A lot of folks still don't seem to realize that a Mora can last as long as any other knife as long as it's taken care of.
