Mora Pro Robust

Life's been pretty good. :)
I've gone back to university to do the Master's of History, so I have bunches of non-knife related reading to do.
Plus there's that TA work for a second year class...ick!

On the bright side, it has meant a bit more cash flow, which makes getting the occasional new knife much more possible.
But there's less time to spend here...part of the ebb and flow of life I guess.

Bet you can't wait for spring to use all those new axes! :D

A masters degree, wow, impressive...and a lot of work. I bet that it's fascinating though. Knives, ya, I'm kind of knifed out right now and doing the axe thing obviously. Why ?, dunno really. After a few the extras are basically redundant, as are our little knife piles I suppose. I putter around just out of town with my small axes and bother no one with my little camp fires and such, so it's all cool. I guy needs to find his peace and solace somewhere. The wife and I have a time line to get out of the bald prairie, so maybe I am subconsciously buying axes in preparation for that glorious day. :D

So far working on the degree is interesting. :)

Getting geared up for the grand escape is a great excuse to buy more axes.

I'm still taking classes myself. It was a pain in the hoop to get back up to speed with APA format, essay structure etc. But it surprising how quickly you can get back on the horse.

Ewww, citations! :D
They sure make writing take longer.

I appreciate both high-end and "workhorse" knives.

For me, there's a reason for both. When you just want a knife to cut something, workhorses are great.

When you need a blade that you can use beyond what a knife is designed for (limited tool situations, for example), having that overbuilt blade can be a godsend.

For me, it's a "use the right tool in the right situation" type of thing.

Mora will do 90% of what my other blades will, but it won't set up my camp, and it won't put wood in my fire (although it will start it better).

There's a place for all of them. Which is why I get kind of annoyed when people make it out to be an either-or situation.

I own more than a few cheaper Mora knives like the Robust and the Companion and have never seen this. I have no problem if it was just unfinished, but the groove and the globs of what looks like silver paint running (to help you visualize it) are more than I'm going to put up with. I've already started the return or I'd post a picture.

Considering that the Pro is $15 and the next cheapest Mora with a 1/8 x 7/8" blade is $40, I'm not sure if I'd be nearly so put out. Heavy sheath, rubber overmolded handle and a really heavy blade for a Mora. These knives are such upgrades from the old Craftline they replaced.

Most of us have a varied collection bud. I broke one of those little 511 ? Moras last fall. I always keep one with a fero rod in the car glove box. I forgot my Lesche metal detecting hand digger so I abused the little Mora, but as you know, the really base versions don't cost much so no big deal really. I admit that it still surprised me though. I have never broken a Mora knife before.
