40 years in law enforcement, and I have yet to see or hear of a case where an otherwise legally justified self-defense scenario made an innocent man guilty, because he was carrying an Assassinator Head Lopper 5000.

Just sayin'....
Well, that's also a thought to think about.

Well, my Mora is already here.
Handle fills my hand nicely and it's oval so it won't be twisting.
Guards at top and bottom of the handle lock my hand in there nicely.
At about 10cm (4 inches) lenght it's adequate.
The tip is pointy, edge is hair popping sharp, and the blade is just 2mm thick so it passes through tissue like laser.
It's light and fast in the hand.
And it costs just 7€.

So I don't see a reason to change it. It can serve this purpose well.

I'm not going to turn my Espada into my main EDC, but this is a small comfort, makes me breathe a sigh of relief. The only way another person would ever see my emergency knife is by being trapped in a precarious position like a car, or having just walked through a cloud of pepper spray to continue attacking me.

I sometimes worry that if by chance a cop would make contact with me, they would dislike my knife or distrust my reasons for having it, but I hope my positive and respectful attitude, explanation, and possessing of other tools like a SAK + clearly expensive Spyderco would deter any thoughts that I am out there trying to be a tough guy with a Black Talon, Yojumbo, Espada XL, or something. I mainly don't worry about it, because if you don't make a nuisance out of yourself, you aren't to be pulled over, but, one never knows when contact may be made.

My true main wonder is what to refer to a reverse-S style knife as. I certainly do not want to call it a self-defense knife. do not want to make an idiot out of the cop and insult his intelligence by calling it a pruning knife for gardening, with it's retention ring and mean serrations. I could explain that, as you see, I have three other knives of different kinds, and they are for X, Y, Z, and this one is just great for pulling apart fibres, ropes, anything. It's fresh off the stone, feel it! Or, I could just say if asked what it's for, that it is an emergency knife, which is true, had in a similar way a traditional rescue knife or medical scissors would be. Seatbelts, straps, clothing, anything one may get stuck in, best safe than sorry.

I usually carry pepper spray and ESEE Candiru when in city. And ESEE Candiru is by no means self defense knife. And I have some martial arts training, but 0 training for knife fights. So I'm probably risking less with bare hands (less chances of my attacker taking my knife from me) in case of fighting a human.

But I was also never stopped or searched by police. Why?
I dress normal, walk and talk normal and I'm not making scenes or issues.

But here for wilderness - carrying my bigger knives is normal.
But still, I never needed a knife for anything when going for a run with my dog, so lugging my large fixed blades would be pretty pointless, and they could get confiscated if I ever used them for self defense, hence buying 7€ Mora.

It's applicable for the task and also, I won't cry over it if I end up without it.

Only way I see using this Mora is if I'm already grabbed by a dog so pepper spray would do more harm than good, or if there's extreme wind, or I emptied my can and missed my target... and so on.
So it's highly unlikely I'll ever need it, but in case I do - it's sure better than bare hands.

Yeah, if this was the 80s, I might have to worry about my look, but now they profile the hip-hop kids, if anyone is to be profiled. Think saggy pants, crucifixes, basically locc'd out G's. Now, I've passed cops and security who have been like "Oh, is that a Venom shirt?! I saw them back in '89, that is awesome!". So, I think now with the age of the police force, my "just stepped out of a Slayer concert in 1984" look, they see me as a pleasant relic of a different era, as most of these cops prefer rock and roll to rap. I was once a stupid teenager who was caught after curfew at 15, and the cop whos cruiser I sat in awaiting my older sister he let me call (thanks!!) noticed my Black Sabbath shirt off the bat, and that instantly put us off on the right foot, anyways, I think this is turning away from your subject, good luck, friend!

Thanks!

I'm just 26yo guy with an office job who's also still a student.

I'm mostly dressed in black or dark blue jeans, one color t-shirt (black, brown, blue, gray or variants of green), with backpack on my back and tired look on my face.

No tattoos, no piercings, absolutely nothing about me is special.

Fellow German here. First off, I hike just about every weekend, with countless nights in the forests in South and West Germany. I have encountered many dog owners that let their dog run free on the trails, luckily no incidents so far...

Actually the only animal you need to look out for are wild hogs, as they can an will charge when they feel that you are a thread. However, boars won't be stopped cold by a 10cm Mora, when they are attacking.

So get the sheath you like and feel safe with, but don't pepper spray neighbor's little fluffy, as they can claim damages to their property if it isn't a clear cut self defense.

If you still don't feel safe enough, get a hunters licence and gear up on guns..

Go out there, enjoy nature and use the knife as a tool...

Those hogs don't even respect Shakira.

ouch... come on- no need for self-deprecation.
RE: LostCause said, "No tattoos, no piercings, absolutely nothing about me is special."

Interesting interpretation ... :-/

What I read (my interpretation) more relates to Grey Man philosophy; the art of being invisible or forgetful to the local populous whilst you achieve your interests without any need for populous or social approval and/or compliance.

See, the joke goes thusly-
The guy meant that there’s nothing about him that seems out of place or threatening, but it’s funny because out of context one could read it that he’s being humble to the point of self humiliation.

EVERY law abiding American should have a right to carry for self defense. That’s just my opinion though. Most of these shootings happen in blue cities. An armed society is a polite society.
How do you know who's a law abiding citizen, and who's buying a gun to, oh I don't know, shoot up a school?

Not a comment, a genuine question.

And here's the comment. A lot of people I know I wouldn't want to see them own a gun. Not that they're criminal, but they just don't have the judgment or wherewithal to properly care for and handle a lethal weapon. They know it, and therefore do not have guns. Here's the crux, some people don't know it, and would get guns.

That sounds just like the logic of an anti-2A gun grabber. Constitutional Carry is in effect in many states.

Well seems to me that this thread has become more of a second amendment discussion than how to carry a fixed blade in your track suit.

Sounds more like a personal attack than an answer. Unfortunately, until an answer to that question, the gun lobby is doomed.

As far as the personal attack, I'm a gun owner, I even won a few medals at trap& skeet. I'm a good shot with a shotgun, decent at target, awful with a pistol.

And I don't attack people personally when I run out of arguments.

Is that what you call an attack? I’m so sorry I hurt your feelings.

We don't - but we live in a democracy. It ain't perfect but it's far better than the other options.

You don't know what anyone is going to do in the future, and you are trying to react and/or stop a crime that hasn't been committed. It's called pre-judgment and it pushes us one step closer to losing democratic freedom of choice and your constitutional rights, even when no crime has been committed.

Example: You see a guy drinking out on his porch every night. I guess you think he should lose his driver's license because he MIGHT drink and drive and kill someone. Better impound his car too, while you're at it, right?

You cannot legislate "might". And if you give the government the ability to do so, you are now living in a communist state, comrade.
