Morakniv New Ash Wood Outdoor Collection

A friend in Finland sent me the link to these and he thinks the Swedes have lost their minds. Ash is not a particularly attractive wood, and blade material is just 'Stainless steel", fair to middling sheath and 169 Euros ($179) to 241 Euros ($255) ? John

Well, our Finnish neighbours are accustomed to us loosing our minds, so that doesn’t say much 😉

Also, I guess the price tag follows from the knives being “hand made”. If ash is attractive or not is a matter of personal opinion I guess. It is a durable hardwood though. Perhaps it is a matter of branding not to go with “overly” exclusive wood grades, Morakniv is more Volvo than RR after all

Edit: I have no idea how these knives compare with Finnish puukkos or other Nordic brands like Helle et c. Regarding the price tag i guess they may be less expensive in retail compared to the Morakniv reference prices

I'd like to know what the steel is, just for curiositys sake as Mora will certainly have the HT dialled either 12c27, 14c28n or aeb-L? I like Ash as said very durable. I initially thought much too expensive but more in line with Helle, Roselli etc.. (the latter more hand made than the former) so I guess they aren't totally out of touch but not what many would expect from Mora.

I've read many of the comments on Instagram and YT more trying to find out about the steel but the opinions seem a mix of wow too expensive or I must have one to add to my collection!

They do look nice and maybe when I've had too much beer I'll "inadvertently" order one🙄

"Recycled Swedish stainless steel"? Hmmm... More information, please.

Skanvik I think.

The light my fire knives are doing the same thing.

Impressive looking knives, but I feel like inexpensive and effective is their deal. Not sure how this is going to play out.

They look great, and all the materials are fine and well made I’m sure… but the price point is laughable.

Those are $50-60 knives. It’s presumably recycled 12c27 in a simple full tang designs with a couple slabs of readily available ash. I’d like that mini cleaver just to have around the kitchen but I’d expect to get three for what they are charging for one.

Mora less expensive lines use rubber moulding, which ask cheaper manufacturing cost compare to other knives from the region, usually made of same steel.

Now that they chose the same material and feature as other European camp knives, their price is simply matching the rest.

(I saw the BPS comment as I was typing, BPS knives has some very rough finish, and their more well made models are as expensive as what this Mora line and the rest of European camp knives have to offer)

Edit: I can't find the more expensive model on their site anymore...
