ok so i have read numerous threads on mora's and how they are THE best "cheap" knives ever to not come out of china. so i broke down (hehe) and bought 2 Frost Mora utility knives (carbon steel) and i must say. hell i love them! i got them in yesterday ( i was at home sick) so it gave me something to mess with. opened them and gave them a good look and really liked what i saw. the handle is nice, the sheath is crap (knew that) and the scandi grind on the blade :thumbup:... so i clean them and test for sharpness. one came out of the "box" very sharp but i fealt a few barbs or roll overs so i touched that up and did the old hairy arm trick and my gosh that thing was wicked sharp.. so i checked the second. it was not that sharp. you could visible see the roll over at the blade. it was worse with the second one. i could really feel the barbs as well. i was a little disappointed at first but hell i was at home with nothing to do so i sharpened that one back up and its now wicked sharp.. that being said it has to be the best $23 i have spent in some time. i can see these lasting a good long time. nothing cheap about these 2 knives. love it

I love my Mora's my 711 all round has earned a permanent place in my truck as a back up knife also the scandi grind is hard to beat when it comes to sharpness all in all for the money they can't be beat but they aren't indestructable and will break when not used properly which shouldn't be a problem for most folks.

Friendly note for OP:

Mora, also known as Frosts of Sweden, are made in Sweden, not China.

I have two of their Clipper models, one in stainless and one in carbon. They are fantastic. I am really wanting the new Bushcraft model with the black and grey sheath and integrated fire starter/diamond sharpening plate. This is what the Bear Grylls knife should have been.

you know, i didnt even think about my truck and the 4 wheeler.. hmmmm

slowstarter it's available at ragnar's, but i feel it's way to much for a mora at $70. the appeal of mora's to me is the low cost that's why i stick to the clippers, companions, 911's, and such.

Yeah, $70 is way too much for a fancier plastic sheath and a firesteel. I love Mora too. Got a stainless clipper in a pack in my cargo van and a couple of fishing knives too.

They're also great in the kitchen. My 510 doubles as my paring knife and will bone out a chicken like nobody's business.

I have to admit that I"ve also been hopping on the Mora bandwagon as of lately especially since I've been on a scandi kick. As of now, I have 4.

They are a Mora # 2 and 3 with 3/4" tangs and red painted birch handles, the 137 which has a 3 7/8" laminated carbon steel blade, and recently, a Mora classic # 2, 4 1/2' blade that is full tang, that is also laminated carbon steel, with an unpainted birch handle that I plan on soaking in boiled linseed oil..

To top it off, I also just picked up a wet moulded leather bushcraft sheath specifically made for the Mora # 2 from JRE Industries. For use as a neck knife while hiking, a Mora is definitely a keeper.

Cheers,
Serge

Sorry, didn't see the "not", I was surfing on my phone. WOT all kinda blended together on me.

i had bought 2 Frost utility knives. one for the kitchen for odd tough jobs that i dont want my more expensive kitchen knives touching and another for general use. i may order a third or 4th of those red utility knives. they are fantastic.. are all mora's full tang?

Another thread about how much someone likes their Mora, just a testament to knife, superb value, gret utility, real staying power.

The newer Moras are 3/4" tangs epoxied into the handle, the older ones had a full rat tail tang style that went completely through the hanlde and is secured by some sort of a friction bolt. Personally I prefer the older or "classics' as they're known. Sure they'e more expensive than the typical $11.00 dollars Moras usually go for but for a full tang and laminated stell, I think they're worth it.

Cheers,
Serge

So the ones you bought are the wooden handled ones? For kitchen use let me recommend the blue plastic handled 546. They are stainless and have the same tang configuration as the carbon 510/511. It's the bottom knife in the X-ray image. The only difference between the 510/511 and 545/546 is the presence of the finger guard.

SS Clipper for kitchen duty
CS Clipper for dirty work (where I don't want to risk my precious expensive blades)

Got to love Moras, they're workers.
