More Issues with Web Special Knives

"I think it should be OK to post your opinions on this forum (both good and bad)."

Laugh at this if need be, but I used to belong to a Turtle and Tortoise forum (I raise Greek Tortoises) that was operated and moderated by a reptile dealer.

Any post and I do mean any that was critical of the company was deleted immediatly and if it happened again by the same poster, they were banned from the forum.

We are fortunate that we do have a forum, moderated by Buck, where good or bad can be posted without getting deleted.

I finially read this thread. Hummuuhh. First off I went and got my two D2 118s and closely inspected them for issues shown by the the OP. Mine are AOK. They do sit in 105 sheaths and eventually with use tip of the knife will work through the sheath. So that is not ideal. I personally don't find it a big issue. The OPs other issues are problems and amount to him being sold a knife that should have been rejected as a blemish/2nd. I'd say calling it junk is within his rights even with the discounted price.

334Dave he's pissed about it and this is a good forum to vent. I'm curious why you're taking it so personal? I don't think CJ would characterize this forum as Buck property or their personal area. I think they use it as a feedback tool and that's a good thing.

I see that CJ has taken note of the problem. And since CJ has seen the OPs gripe I would expect that he'll will get some satisfaction.

Now, I had the buffalo scale basically fall off my 500. At first, I was a little peaved but decided it was an opportunity to put Ironwood on a 500 (I can't get TinSue to sell me his Ironwood 500) and I ordered another and it should be here any day. Now if this one is flawed, I'll send it back directly to Joe H and it'll get fixed. I'm not concerned about that because CustServ is great at this company.

I don't know... I think some of the complaining could have been avoided with better communication on the web site specifically the correct listing of the items (thinking of the NS & Elk issue). I do wonder if some of the knives like the OPs are returns that found their way back into inventory (if so its another opportunity for the managers at Buck to manage the process for improved performance).

yes it is with in his rights ...
i dont agree with doing it though..
as to personal.... humm long time ago there were some that come on to cause trouble... i got tired of it ... ....
some [many] times i was wrong in the way i express it ...
that is why some call me decaff..
even though it did what i wanted in that many times it served to
stop continual bashing by them....
every one should have better manners then i have..

yes what would have avoided issues is always some thing to look for..
i am anti bashing on many many things
but buck is one of my few pros so i tend to get hyper...
sorry...

Dave,

I'm all for defending this good company. I love their product but I didn't think the OP was trolling and had a legit complaint. I guess its up in the air about what this forums purpose should be but I think bitching about issues with your new knife is a fair territory.

I'm going over to start reading that thread you got going on this issue. I noticed you have a lot to say. I need to move down stairs, get the laptop, and settle into the big chair for that one.:D:D

yes if it was me i would also feel it was fair territory ...
yea and most of what i say i get in trouble for..,

My 2 cents: I bought one of the D2 118s at the last factory sale in Idaho. I thought it was very well made and the fit and finish seemed fine. I was a little disappointed when I got home and found it had a 105 sheath, but for $35 (that's how much they were at the show) I still thought it was a steal of a deal!!!!

You guys got good deals, if you do nothing but strip that blade and re handle it. forget about the off sheath. Just toss them.

You don't even want to know what I paid for my two D-2 stags. but that has been a few years ago and LE's.

But yes,,,any of them should have come out of the factory in prime shape.

Any of them that any of you don't want, and want your money back....well...

just sayin....

Just recieved my Paua Shell Rush and its a beautiful knife. Had a small blem where the black was worn but am actually intending on carrying it on special occassions so not too worried. Now it is VERY difficult to open, can't with the thumb studs or just pulling the blade by hand. The flicker is difficult but seems to be smoothing up. Will do the hot water rinse I've read on here to see if that improves.

Had a similar opening problem with my Rush I received as a Web Special. I decided to open it to investigate and re-lube. WARNING: Step away from the Torx driver. Internally, it's nothing like a Kershaw or any other AO I've ever seen. Basically, it's extremely difficult to get back together once taken apart. No torsion bar but two watch type coiled springs that need to to be aligned with another moving part in order to get it working again. Definitely not intended to be user serviceable if the springs break like Kershaws. I could do it again if needed, after hours of head scratching the first time, but I wouldn't suggest it for the faint of heart. Once re-lubed and reassembled it works flawlessly with incredible kick for such delicate looking springs. As I said in an earlier post, a very classy high end knife.

I must be one lucky guy.........EVERY one of the web specials I ordered has been top notch (I checked all of them for any of the issues mentioned). In fact, the 301 and 532 in Ironwood/Mammoth were so nice I was shocked. I am not sure why there are sooo many leaving the factory that shouldn't be, but of the dozen I got..........ZERO issues. I am not sure how I would have reacted had I gotten one of the bad ones, but given the price, if it was not a safety hazard, I would probably just carry it. I know I would have never been able to purchase these knives without the web specials, so my hope is that BUCK will continue to let us buy these specials. It appears CJ has taken note of the issues and I will bet we see qc amped up......especially after this round of web specials.

Take care, Mike Arnold

So far all of mine have been great also. My only concern is that they might cut off the web specials all together after all the fuss. I check it several times a day to see if it's been updated.

I just keep hoping that they will drop the price on the Ironwood/Mammoth tooth 532 some more. I'll be all over that one!:D

I would think they would drop the 55 with Ironwood/Mammoth tooth first. They are both the same price. I would think the 532 is a better buy for the same price. Maybe they will drop the price of both of them.:)

I bought the 301 Ironwood/Mammoth tooth for $85 and it turned out to be better than the picture. It is a real beauty, I am glad I bought it. My 301 was desgned by "Wilde Bill Cody" and had a serial number on it. (116/200) So, I assume the others were designed by Bill Cody also.

I can't stay away from there either. I would be all over that 532 myself.

AF
i run a home for orphan buck knives were they
receive love, attention and medical care and
may be sent on to homes that will love them as they are,,
you or any one can send any unwanted bucks to me!;):D
kidding aside any play should be sent back
nothing is always per-fict..
it is making it right that is commendable..

Ha. I don't doubt that you'd have given this 112 a better home than where it is now...it was my uncle's 70th birthday. I don't think he really knows what he's got but then again it does come in a fancy box. I'm sure he appreciates it.
I wasn't sure if a little blade play was within spec. I haven't handled a ton of Bucks but it's not so uncommon generally speaking for a lockback to have (or especially develop) a little play.

some verry small side to side movement is acceptable when closed
open it should lock up solid as the rock AL Buck put his faith in ...

If, and I know it is a big if the Ironwood/Mammoth goes down anymore.......I'll be on as many as I can afford like flies on poo. It is bar none the finest $150 knife I have EVER handled. I don't know how many more they could possibly have though. The one I received was #138/200. Do they send them out sequentially? If they do, would that mean there are roughly 60 left?

Take care, Mike Arnold

If you're talking about the 532, I have #5 of 200. I don't remember where I bought it but I do know that it was more than $150. I may have to just go for another in case they don't come down and get sold out while I'm waiting for them to.

Yeah Dave it is the 532........, the stockman is very, very nice but I think I only paid $85 for that one. You got # 5....WOW! So do you know if they sell them in order. If they do, I might have to get another also.

Take care, Mike Arnold

From what I have been reading I have a feeling the web special page is history.
