More on the Junglas

I want to know exactly what specific recent event or events would lead someone to assume that a huge change in society is imminent. "The End Is Near" has been a never-ending refrain for hundreds of years now, and it has not happened yet. We're not going to run out of oil anytime soon, at least from what I've heard. If we were, you would see a rapid and high surge in the price of oil. I doubt that we're running out of oil anytime soon when the price of gasoline where I live has dropped from $3.04 per gallon to $2.95 per gallon in the last week. There's always going to be some war or conflict going on somewhere. I don't think we'll ever see the day when there is not. True, eventually we will need to move from oil to other methods of energy, but this will be a gradual change, not "here today, gone tomorrow." And for all of you types who want to think you can really live off the land, go do it. Find your nearest state or national park, pack up your gear, and go survive in the middle of it. In the dead of winter. Few would survive. If things go south, I have no intention of leaving my home. I have an extended family network, four walls, a roof, a cubbard full of canned food, all my guns, ammo, a fireplace, a woodpile, clothing, beds, blankets, and a well I could draw drinkable water out of with a rope and bucket here. Why the hell would I pack up and head to the woods? So someone else can set up residence in my home while I'm out sleeping on the cold ground in the rain?

:thumbup::thumbup: I totally agree!

It is strange, but true.

There you go, fixed it. :D

i have heard some speak of the junglas as a replacement to the traditional machete. the one i played with was the ontario version. truely a useful piece of equipment. i just can't see it being used to blaze a trail or make a clearing for a camp site. just a bit short.

There is no conceivable way to prepare for any kind of collapse, so stop pretending there is.
We would die.
Knives are not going to beat guns.
When bullets run out those carrying only a knife will be dead.
Since you don't live in the hills you will die there.
Start a garden anyway, it's good for you.

There is a certain amount of sense in this line.

:eek::eek: Your gas price is dropping? Damn lucky! Here (South Africa) our prices keep rising. Went up another 15c with estimated hike of another 5c shortly.

The rest of your post makes an interesting argument!

Yeah. Maybe you could show this to people in Egypt. I'm sure they would get a kick out of seeing how unreal or impossible it is for things to get bad......Oh wait your trying to tell me things like this don't happen, I forgot.

Look at it this way. What am I out for being prepared?...........Nothing! Extra food,Oh yeah, we need to eat anyway. Water? Oh yeah, that's handy to. Guns ammo? I love to shoot!

What does being unprepared get you......I think you know the answer to that one.

I Do have a sense of humor. Funny video, and very accurate of many people....but not me!

I wasn't refering to you ( in my first post ) and I never said things couldn't get bad.
My point was most people would not even know what to do for their basic needs.
Being prepared for a short period ( 2 months ) of time is a good thing.
But preparing for long term is a nightmare unless you live in the country.

I got a Junglas, and I love it. I can't fit a full size machete in my backpack. The Junglas fits in the hydration pocket like it was made to be there.
Why would I keep a blade like that in my backpack? The backpack is usually in the truck w/ me. I once had to chop through a tree blocking my way w/ a Buck Nighthawk (one of the first ones, with the longer blades). I expect the Junglas would work better than the Buck did (although the Buck did the job...lost that knife on a barrier island after a night of debauchery...but that's another story).
Thing is, I have need for a chopper often enough I should probably carry something much more suitable, but the Junglas is just so damned convenient. It also does a lot of yard work with me, good for getting rid of occasional aggression.

Also, it is, hands down, one of the most badass overpriced hunks of impractical metal I have ever had the pleasure of wrapping my mitts around.

i will be proving different next week.

:)

i just wanna put this out there... i may not believe in a zombie apocalypse or a total system collapse or that i could even begin to prepare for either, but the junglas is an awesome knife and i can't wait to get my hands on one.
