We all make choices based on our experiences, likes, dislikes, etc. Every time I see an Estwing I think about the tendonitis that plagued me for years. I dislike the shock that comes back up that steel shaft and much prefer a wood or composite handle it's a personal experience thing. Some guys obviously like them.
As for the three "essential" knives, I own multiple versions of all three as a collector/accumulator. But they aren't included in any kits.
