More puukkos from Norway and Sweden

My vote is wolf. Hand-made treasure....

I must not go to Kellam site... or Brusletto...

Can I use parental controls to lock out knife websites...from me?

Im such an infant. Thank you Steve. That loop is just sweet. Then theres the knife. Dang. I just love the brasswork. Super sweet rig. I can see you've got it sharp as hell too. Nice.

Bear! or wolf :D I was thinking Lion because of Finland. But it's definitely a Bear or a Wolf.

Yvsa, it's glued up. Semi-soft wood. Not Birch.

Love the reindeer horn puukko Kis.

oh yeah, i forgot that i snagged a used $5 kellam puuko at the show (was hoping for more goodies like this), stainless but not the awful kind, a little dull, cute plastic sheath if a bit funny colored ;) 2 minutes with some used 2000 grit sandpaper and the handy convex method brought it up to shaving smiles into thin register receipt paper. maybe later i'll get some fresh 2000 grit and spent a couple more minutes. should be able to shave with it after - good for traps and fuzz sticks and mushroom hunters.

it'll make a nifty little no care "survival" knife.

i've got a couple plain wood handle jobs from a prior show that are *wicked* sharp. wow. saw a pretty nice leuko/puuko set in a single sheath, but $100 was a bit steep when i've seen the same for $50 somewhere...

Bladite I got a set of these from Ragnar for $99.00 IIRC and I've been extremely happy with them!!!!
They are listed under the "Finnish Knives from Järvenpää" if you want to see them on his website.
Right now they are out of stock.:(
This is a wonderful set of the Scandi knives and mine have really beautiful Curly Birch handles on them!!!!
With the cost of some of the Curly Birch knife handle blocks they are well worth the price, IMO anyway. :D ;)
I warmed up the sheath with our blow dryer and slathered it in Sno-Seal which mottled the color of the leather at the heavy folds. Both knives fit like a tight glove and the hanging strap is very robust.
I have debated whether to woodchuck the handles or not as there are good reasons for leaving them as sanded but they would be absolutely exquisite if I woodchucked them as the oil brings out all the hidden grain.
One of these days.....;) :o

yup, thems the ones. same price as the show ;) except the ones at the show were used. i know i've seen this exact set somewhere for $50ish (sale? clearance?). i'd rather give ragnar the $$$ for new, rather than the same for used and a feisty salesperson that won't haggle ;)

good stuff.

I agree about giving Ragnar the same for new. ;) :D
Finding a set for half that is sorta like finding a really nice old Cattarragus Q225 for less than $50.00 let alone $99.00 like I did! :D
Definitely a bargain for both!
The nice thing about buying from Ragnar is that he will usually pick out a really nice set of handles for you without even having to ask him too.:D

when i secure a few paychecks, running dangerously low here... ragnar will ge t quit the order :)

he doesn't carry this, but i like the look of it a lot:

some of the other line is good too.

I like the saying non-nonsense knife! Puukko has long traditions in Finland (and is actually a Finnish word) and has always considered a working tool. It is made for use and can even take pretty heavy abuse. Virtually every Finnish man (and woman) probably has one of his own, or has had at some time in the past.

Can you tell I'm a Finn?! :D

Personally I like carbon steel and I think the most interesting puukko knives come from northern Finland (Lapland) or Sweden. This one here was made way past the arctic circle in Kolari, Finland. The maker is Kauko Raatiniemi. I love the way he uses curly birch and reindeer antler! I also think Karesuando Knives from Sweden are beautiful and great puukkos... for someone who truly appreciate a good working knife!

Did I say you are a good man Steve Ferguson?
A lovely blade can help a bruised heart.
But, never mind. In the end, it sorts out.

Welcome to the cantina Puukko Lover. We have an affinity for the puukko too as you can see. Stick around and we'll try to infect you with the khukuri virus too.

Steve, those are beautiful! I really like the one with the guard, and the one with the dark squared off handle.

I have a modest collection of just 5 puukko's, all bought from Ragnar, but it looks as if I should be paying attention to E-bay!

So many knives, so little time!

Thanks also for the picture tips. I have photoshop but rarely use it for adjusting pics, and just post direct from the camera.

Regards,

Norm

Do not buy from Ebay! (more for me) ;) :D Just kidding.

Thanks

Kronck, those look great.

Those Leuku's are something else. I've got a Helle Lapplander that I've been beating pretty hard, that has performed really, really well. It's probably going to even replace my beloved BK 5 as a general woods loafing blade. Not quite as rugged, but very lightweight and efficient. (For you folks who frequent the for sale section, no..it's not the one I've got listed as NIB):D :o

That's a Jarvenpaa in the middle? how long is the blade on that one?

I used to have a similar one with a four and a quarter inch blade (now my wifes) man that thing takes an unbelievable edge and holds it! It's one of those neat old knives that you just wish could talk...

thanks for showing 'em!
