More puukkos from Norway and Sweden

Those Leuku's are something else. I've got a Helle Lapplander that I've been beating pretty hard, that has performed really, really well. It's probably going to even replace my beloved BK 5 as a general woods loafing blade. Not quite as rugged, but very lightweight and efficient. (For you folks who frequent the for sale section, no..it's not the one I've got listed as NIB):D :o

i like the look of that helle earth you had. just didn't have the funds. bah.

puukos are like the new ultra sharp thang :) i definitely want to make a sheath for a given kukri, that has room for puuko (matching would a bonus), and make a leuko. 1 2 3 punch :)

That Earth was definitely my favorite of the...element series. a bit more...well...down to Earth so to speak....:D

The Wind is really nice too, but it just doesn't "grab me" the way I'd thought it would. My wife is a big fan of it though, if she had her way I wouldn't be selling it. If she had her way though, we'd be a homeless family pushing along a really cool knife collection in a shopping cart...(believe me, I'm becoming very well versed in that shortage of funds thing)

A small well made, 3inchish Puukko would be awesome as a Karda...That's a heckuva neat idea! Someone should work on that concept...

Would love to make my own Leuku some day. Right now I lack the talent to grind that thin of a blade, and I'm not brave enough to try putting a handle on one of the pre-ground blades. I'd wanna mortise and pin the tang like we'd discussed in PM, and just don't feel brave enough yet...

heh. yah, shortages and just being good. i have a lot of things with edges, some of which seem destined to be shelf queens, and some ... well, i respect the forest too much just to cut stuff down. as much as that might be fun. i need projects. speaking of, i can't even find the time (or warm weather yet), to complete putting some more oil/sealant on my horn handled khuks, or sharpen up one of them to paper cutting... or helle, put a handle on my ulu ... yet (tactical cordage? ;>)... i REALLY would like to get a morseth and handle it up. bleah. time. workshop. tools. :> stout though.

that reminds me - put specs on that new one you have on exchange - i like sharp and stout - must know specs.

in the stout dept, my monthly sin should show up saturday? a larger ontario rak to match my baby one. THOSE are stout. sharp too. got that green puuko up above, very sharp. that set makes for a good camping trio. sharp, short, and long.

Thanks for mentioning that one in the Exchange. It should have all the specs now. It's also mentioned in my "Beauty and the Beasts" thread here. I should have most everything, except the handle length (four inchish I know) Please feel free to PM me if there's any further info you'd like on it.

I love the look of the RTAK's...definitely one of the nicest looking tactical designs. designed by a real deal hard core user and made by a KISS simple company with a KISS simple steel....I like that!

Yeah man...that Ulu blade....I'm selling them by the hundreds...a Strider cord wrap and some Crayola Urban camo finish.....it's becoming a favorite among the tactical seal and whale assassination teams up here...:D

A small puukko with a Khukuri?? Your wish is my demand:D

Seriously I have been noodling something similar since I got my 15" AK...Only downside is the handle...Would have to be kinda flat...But since i have small girly hands it wouldnt be an issue with my knives

The one I was thinking of is simply attached to the front of the Khuk sheath with a flap covering it...Thinking a small slot for a ceramic rod or steel to go along side of it...would cost hundreds of dollars to make..Ahh anyone wanna volunteer a puukko??;)

Sounds like you're thinking something real similar to the Jarvenpaa sheath...

Sounds like a neat idea, if one could afford it.

I can rifle through the collection a bit, but the only small handled Puukko knives that are immediately coming to mind are the monstrosity called my first one, and my "Mad Knife" (Just ask if you really wanna know):o

GRRRR and here I thought I was having an original idea for a change..

OHHH WELL..

Yup that is similar to the one I have in my head, with the exception of the main blade being a large Khuk and the addition of a butchers steel or ceramic rod...

OK it is off to the drawing board...

Once I get my AK parts kit going bang, I hope my design stuff kick's back in:confused:

that's on my list of things "to have"... i'm wondering if that whole leuko/puuko can then be grafted onto a thinner khukri sheath, possible with a ragnar ceramic rod and a ferrocium fire rod thing :>

as i type this, i decided to drink rum, watch "castaway", and hold my sas survival book in my lap :)

what about those fallkniven knives? they have a variety, and seem to cost a deer penny, and are hotly sold and traded over thar in the forums. the survival crowd seems to like them too.

special? good? eh?

i see too they have a "folding model" - a folder puuko type scandinavian blade? how weird is that? http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=SWEDU2 strange.

Fallknivens are really nice looking knives in thier own right, with a reputation for being hellbent for stout, and a very practically designed knife for the outdoors. That being said, most of them seem a far cry from a classical Puukko. (Except the H1, which is definitely on my short list)

I just recently talked my father into replacing his Gerber LST with one of the little U2's. He was griping to me yesterday, that the Fallkniven is already dull, and doesn't seem to hold any better an edge than his Gerber!! I think he's gotta be nuts, but I'll be getting it in a day or so to see for myself. I figure I'll thin the edge out, put a nice convex grind on it, and see how that does. If he keeps gripin' I might get myself a real sweet deal on a U2....:D

I'd also like to try one of those folders from the Tre Kroner series, but...they're a bit rich for my blood right now. Also love the Northern Lights series, but once again...for that kinda money...I'm gonna be givin' some of the custom makers a call.

That lil' U2 is about the closest thing I've seen to a folding Puukko though, besides perhaps a CIA Flutterby knife :http://www.ragweedforge.com/9692.jpg

I've got one of these, way neat! cheap, lightweight, and takes a hellacious edge It's got more handle flex than I really like, but for the price, I can't really complain...

My Lonewolf T-2 pretends it's a folding Puukko, but I think it just does that to make me like it more....:D

if we're including scandanavian folders, the humble eskilstuna barrel knife requires a mention:

Those Barrel knives are so neat. They throw me in a tizzy every time I see 'em. on E-Prey...(pretty often) Part of me impulsively wants to snag it for the collection, and then the other part remembers that I'm trying to GET RID of my knife collection, not keep building it up...

Just one more knife wouldn't hurt though.......

Nice pic! thanks for sharing!
