I am no fan of knock-offs at all. It's theft of intellectual property and it's illegal. It wouldn't be profitable if dealers refused to sell the products.
But, here's an interesting thought: I'll bet that a dealer can make more money selling these Charming China Cheapies, CCCs, as I call 'em, than selling the real MT. Why. Higher margin AND higher volume.
If you sell a genuine MT for $200, you might get to keep $25 of that by the time you pay all the overhead an so forth. Let's say you can sell 10 a month. That's $250 per month.
For every $25 CCC you sell, you might pocket $15 (Remember, literally you buy these things by the bag full for a few bucks each.) And, in the same month, you can probably sell 40 of 'em because 4 out of five buyers don't know the difference and, in fact, would never drop $200 on a knife. That's six hundred bucks a month.
Lets see, MT is making me $250 a month. Lee Kee Knife Company is making me $600 a month. If MT says, "there ain't room in the showcase for both of us," guess who's gonna be leaving?
In this case, knivesRus is not misrepresenting the product. They come right out and say it's a copy. Certainly, anyone who thinks they're buying a genuine MT for $25 should call me ASAP. I've got some excellent investment opportunities I'd like to talk to you about.
I do like the fact that right below the description of the knife is a link that asks "Do you need a sharpener for this knife?" What does that tell us?
