Most ergonomic knife you own?

Fixed:
Camillus/Becker BK-2 Campanion that I just received today...I've hardly been able to put it down for the past 6 hours!

Folder:
Spyderco G-10 Police model that has had the sharp edges of the G-10 rounded & smoothed.

Well, before I sold it, my Mini Commander was a perfect fit for my hand. Just didn't care for the chisel edge and rather blunt tip. That's too bad, because I have never owned or held a knife that fit the hand so well, no matter what kind of grip used. If only my 806D2 had the Mini Commander's handle, it would be the perfect knife. Everybody talks about how perfect the 806 is, but it has really taken some getting used to (and I am starting to like it more and more). Not the case with my Mini Commander. I also like the feel of my 940 and 941 in my hand.

IMHO, the award winner for most ergonomic folder goes to the Gerber Gator(drop point ATS-34 model). It is the most comfortable folder I've ever held in these paws. If they put a stud on it and a clip it'd be in my EDC rotation.

Most ergonomic fixed blade is a bit tougher. There are some good contenders out there. Lately I'm leaning heavily toward the Spyderco Temperance. IMO, Sal did the handle on this model right. It just has a really friendly grip that sez "come on, let's go cut something!":D

All the best,
Mike U.

Another vote for Emerson Mini Commander. I love the feel of that knife. It is a fighting knife rather than a utility I think. The recurve blade is specialized for cutting/slashing rather than stabbing. I don't think a sharper point would make much of a difference in a self-defense situation though - in my experimenting, it is still capable of penetrating just about everything.

Nice thread!

Folder:
Gerber Gator: this folder has been mentioned a couple of times and for me this knife has a very comfortable grip. Unfortunately it´s a little too big to carry around everyday.

Fixed blade:
Grohmann #1 Survival knife: this knife has a nice wooden grip which is profiled so that you can easily position your hands. The ´strange´ angle between the blade and the grip makes for comfortable cutting.

Hey Medic, I agree with ya on the 806 as not having the best ergo's around. It is way too slim. I have small hands and it feels a bit akward when I am using it. How do people with bigger mitts find a good grip on that knife?

Of all my big knives, the 806 and police are the least comfortable with the 806 the worse of the bunch.

It could make a very big difference. The only lethal targets you are going to hit with a slashing strike are arteries, and the only ones that aren't hidden (by bones) are the carotid arteries, and even they are quite deep, and shielded by muscle and tendons. I have picked up more assault victims than I can count, and I have yet to have a patient die on me with slash wounds. The only knife injury deaths that I have seen have been stab wounds. All the major organs are deep, and quite protected by the rib cage (these are the solid organs that bleed profusely, not intestines). I had one guy die on me that was stabbed one time in the thigh, near the groin. Hit the femoral artery, and he bled out en route to the hospital. So, being only a slasher makes a knife of very limited use for SD. They truly suck in colder areas where people are bundled up to stay warm.

Not sure what kind of experimenting you did with yours, but I did several things that showed me the Mini Commander sucked at thrusting apps. I could barely get it to go through a few layers of towel, into a water filled jug. My 806D2 would penetrate almost like there is no towel there. BIG difference.

For a fixed blade, I would have to pick my Timberline Zambezi. No matter how I hold, it feels comfortable and secure. For a folder, it would have to by the mini-griptilian.

Tough choice. At the moment, I would say that either my Chris Reeve Mnandi or my Kit Carson Model 21 would be the two I am carrying the most due to their comfort factor.

Fixed: Pronghorn-- Hands down winner . Fowler or Burke
Folder: MY baby Browning model 726 , not fancy and is cheap but just works for me

Most ergonomic would be my Kershaw 1550 Blackout. Fits perfectly in my hand and could stay there all day so long as I didn't get itchy. I don't like the assisted opening, though.

Both of mine, the fixed blade and the folder are custom knives but the ergos of the grip is one reason I chose them.

Fixed blade: Bob Dozier Tactical 6. Just fits in my hand as if shaped for my hand from the beginning. It literally becomes an extension of my hand!

Folder: J.W. Smith LDC-5. One of the reasons I chose this folder to be modified a bit was the handle. The butt end of it is heavy and drops down and acts as a anchor for the hand.
