Which SAK do you think is the most useful/functional/best all-around?

I like the Nomad, and the Explorer.

I like the Spartan. I use every tool on it and don't find myself wanting anything bigger.

I prefer the ones with not too many tools. I've got a Soldier and Executive.
The Rambler looks interesting, but I haven't tried it.

I just realized it may not be a Soldier I've got. I've always thought it was, but now I see that the current Soldier doesn't have a saw. Otherwise mine is the same, exept it's red. Is it really a discontinued model perhaps?<img src="http://www.canit.se/%7Egriffon/knives/.1x1knives.gif" alt="" height=0 width=0>

I really like, and get the most use from, the Cadet and Soldier models. They're both really tough (thick aluminum scales as opposed to celluloid), sharp, and easy to maintain. If I need more tools, I go to the truck and get the toolkit.

The next most useful to me is the Classic. The toothpick and scissors really come in handy.

Hey Guys..

Gotta be the RUK SAK and the Outrider...

The Outrider is almost the same as the RUK, except only slightly bigger with a pair of scissors and a nice little phillips screw driver..

Both have locking blades...

I think it's a Farmer.

The two that I carry most often are the Climber and the Executive.

I love my Souvenir. Big blade for food, small blade for every other thing, mainly cleaning my nails. It can screw/unscrew unless it's too tight. Holding it tight in my hand, I can open beer bottles by its handle. It helps me cut a steak with the restaurant's too dull knife. It makes a good keychain holder. Punch a hole, or cut cigar.

What else do you want for an SAK? Well, many things more, maybe. But a Souvenir has very good available tasks per blade ratio IMO.

I like the locking blade models. I always wondered if the champ was any good or just a gimmick? If it counts I think the Swisstool X is the top of the line.

What is this existential quandry all about anyway?

I own alot of different ones (both Vics and Wengers) and I'm always looking for the perfect one. I prefer one that is'nt too large or bulky for pocket-carry (so that rules out the large lock-blades). Right now I carry either my Wenger Trout or my Victorinox Electrician, but I have found what may be the perfect pocket SAK: the Wenger Serrated Backpacker. With a large serrated blade, small plain blade, wood-saw, and the other usual features, I think it might be just what I need (and still not too bulky).

I carry a Rambler and a Tinker everyday. They have both come in very handy, everyone that always borrows them thinks so too.

From the small ones: the Rambler (scissors, nail file, two screwdrivers and a bottle opener).
From the medium ones: the Spartan (small blade, can opener and corkscrew) and the Soldier (still medium sized but thicker/longer blades and tools, nice slim and strong alox handle).
From the big locking ones: the Forester (wood saw).
If I need more tools: the Victorinox SwissTool X (not a real SAK).
I also prefer those models on which I use most of the tools regularly. But because I do not like the too bulky models I always carry the Rambler and one of the bigger models mentioned above.
Griffon, your knife is the Farmer model. The red alox handled ones are discontinued but you can find silver alox handled on the net: sometimes all the alox handled (except the Soldier) are called just Pioneers. A good source which also ships to the US is:

There are a lot of models which are not regularly retailed in the US. Go to the advanced search and enjoy.
I have learned about this site here on the Forum and recently ordered some nice SAKs from them. Great prices, great service!

Littleknife has a good lead with swiss-knife. I got my Locksmith model there. It has the large locking blade, locking large screwdriver, small screwdriver--can opener combo, awl, philips head, saw, and metal file. It's a bit bulky, but really does a job.

I like the ruksack. The saw is probably the one I used the least, but is nice to know it will be there...
I would go for the large models with any SAK.

BTW what Tom Hanks had ( or had not

) in Cast Away was a small SAK, wasn't it?

I like the Explorer and Climber Delux.

I've been lugging a Huntsman around for close to thirty years now, no complaints. Just last week I bought a Craftsman, but haven't carried it yet, I'm having a hard time getting past it not having a cork screw, even though I don't drink wine and only open someone else's on rare occasions. I guess a lot of people sneer at the larger SAKs, but they've proven pretty useful to me through the years.
