Most overlooked item in PSK

I,m a trader so trade items come to mind . This is doubly good for this thread .
You can take into account what other less prepared people are likely to forget .
A couple of spares can be traded for something they have that you need or want .

I don,t know if knives where the tang is the handle would trade well ? At the very least a couple extra flat knives don,t take up much space . At the worse you could always fashion a handle for them . I have one made from a file that would trade real well . Thats how I got it . L:O:L

Hmmm... I'll say pictures of family/loved ones...a picture sustained Tom Hanks in Cast Away:D ...
Watch the movie again. Wilson was his best friend and confidant. Pack a soccer ball!:D

I thought wilson was a coconut ?

He could be a bit hard headed at times .

Didn,t have much to say .

Really the only thing he could get across was that he was a nut .

It was never meant to last and in the end they just drifted apart . L:O:L

I think your most essential items will be determined by what your planned behavior is when the SHTF. Do you plan to hunker down where you're at, or take off on an escape route by foot or by car?

A PSK will more likely be used in a situation other than TEOTWAWKI.

For a more likely survival situation, it is not possible to know what your priorities will be until the survival situation arises. You may be required to move some -- or lots -- depending on the situation.

It is good to include garlic to keep vampires away, but it has little to no effect on zombies.

(And spices make good light-weight trade goods.)

I bought a Grundig Mini World 100PE on clearance at Radio Shack for $19.00, runs on 2 AA's and is the size of a pack of smokes, but I am amazed at how much stuff it picks up.

A radio and a map in you PSK can be very handy. Toilet paper can be improvised.

How about a good moral to survive! Can be very small and light. Just make some photos of your loved ones water-resistant. You can even write there names and birthdays on them.

Video or audio files are also very stimulating to survival.

ABSOLUTELY. If one is long or especially short sighted, all the tools/knives/kits in the world will not help when you can't see where you're going, or, thread the line through a fish hook. I am short sighted since 10 y.o. - I don't go anywhere significant without my spare specs. Actually, one can makeup an additional pair of the lens only, and pack that away with the PSK. The frame can be repaired mostly. Also - longsighted lens can act as magnifying glasses.

I know it sounds stupid, but, one of those survival note leaflets should be included. Sure, when practising we can remember stuff, but when the SHTF we are traumatised! Just having the notes can not only remind us of skills forgotten in terror or pain, but, it raises morale!! The last posts talks of attitude - the notes can help. Put aside our egos, and we would be better prepared, IMHO.

As far as overlooked items go, I think a "Next of Kin" card is often overlooked. Laminate it to the back of YOUR photo. Make sure it has your medical info on it, and identifying marks. Keep one in your wallet, and one in your kit.

The SW radio is a great idea, I hadn't thought of that. Now to go out and buy one to add to my kit - peferably one with a weather band.

I was looking at this model for it's size and price. Does it have a weather band?

Something I never see mentioned by anyone is something for toohaches.A bad tooth can lay you up for days.Arnold

A small spare SAK. This way, no matter what else happens, if you have your survival kit, you have a knife.
