Most overlooked item in PSK

I agree - hydration is often overlooked because most folks forget how critical it is to replace electrolytes. Hydration isn't just drinking enough water.

I carry this product - http://eletewater.com/ and I highly recommend it for extreme physical exertion.

Another good choice is a Sony AM/FM ICF-S10MK2. It's a simple old fashion style pocket sized transistor radio. No provision for AC adapter, but runs forever on two AA batteries, gets good reception. They cost about $10, are much better than any other pocket transistor radio on the market.

That's the model I have for EDC. Glad to hear it's a good one!:D

I've got it loaded with rechargeables and carry a little PV cell to go with it:

I was in a drugstore tonight and while I was there, I saw a switchable 1/3 LED crank light for about 8 bucks on sale, so I bought it. With the 3 LED's, it gives the same amount of light as my 2-AA Mini Mag with the LED conversion, so, this started me thinking about crank radios, etc. The conclusion, I've come to is - what we need is a crank type battery charger for rechargeable AA's - has anybody heard of one?

Doc

Doc ? Sounds like a crank call to me . L:O:L

We are getting so much better with our chargers . The fastest standard charger I know about is 15 minutes and is cooled by a fan .

Even if there is a fifteen minute crank charger thats going to make me awful cranky . L:O:L
I,m pretty much out of the loop as to innovations . I am sure if it doesn,t exist it will soon enough .

The only thing I have seen close to that is the shake flashlights . I think it is not so much how good the charging system is . Its how low a demand the L:E:D:s make .

And can someone please tell me why this flipping little smiley bastid shows up whenever I type a capital fourth letter of the alphabet ? DDDDDDDD
Oh sure now that I want it it doesn,t work . L:O:L

Radios: I have the Grundig FR200 and Eton FR300, which are both made by Eton.

The 200 has 2 more shortwave bands but no TV or Weather. It has an old fashioned incandescent lamp instead of an LED. By some expert accounts, its electronics are better than the 300's.

The 300 has VHF-TV and Weather bands, which I think are more useful in an emergency than more weather bands, and an LED lamp. On the downside, some very knowledgable reviewers have knocked the electronics, saying that especially the VHF band reception is extremely problematic.

I have a simple pocket-sized "Weather Alert" radio from Radio Shack that has never let me down. I carry it in a Ziploc.

The tiny Sony radios listed here have a reputation for near-miraculous price/performance ratio. No other pocket radios have this kind of buzz about them. I've owned similar-looking radios that couldn't pick up squat. So I'm getting some of these Sonys.

Without getting into expensive little boutique radios, the hands-down definitive portable AM/FM radio is the GE Super Radio III. Too big for a day pack, maybe just right for a 30" or bigger duffel in a vehicle. There are websites dedicated to this radio.

The GE Super Radio III is a fantastic radio. I listen to mine every day, and usually take it on the solo camping trips to the desert. The large speaker makes for good sound quality, and it's particularly good at the hobby of long distance listening. Six D batteries provide long life. And it has hookups for external antennas (which I've never really used, as the built-in FM and AM antennas are quite satisfactory for me). But as you say, it's not the most compact of portable radios.
