Who makes the absolute most razor sharp out of box edge, in a folding knive, for under $200.00?

I am looking at the Spyderco Gayle Bradley and the Sage 1...are these one of them?
It seems the GB or Sage 1 would be the better office worker knive, more than the Para 2.

Thanks

Spyderco has good edge grinds. I own 6 Spydies and all were good. All mine are from Golden, CO or Japan. The GB is made in their Taiwan factory, but I hear it's also quite good.

In the end, your knife will dull fast enough once you start using it. Be sure to learn how to hone an edge to keep it sharp.

The GB is a beautiful knife. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

My Opinels were sharp as hell ootb. And you could afford about twenty of them for that price.

Kind regards

Hands down, no holds barred, the sharpest knife I have gotten new ootb for any price was a pair of Frosts Mora 780 Craftsman Triflex. Got two of them at the same time, both as sharp as the other, so no fluke. Less than $15 a piece, blew me away. Much sharper than any Spyderco, Vic or Opinel I have gotten.

But as far as the real question you are asking.....Go with which ever knife you prefer, sharpness is not an issue but for a few minutes.

Get a Sharpmaker 204 and learn to sharpen yourself. You can easily surpass factory sharp in no time with it and still be close to your $200. Either that or some leather and metal polish and learn to strop the edge, that will be your cheapest route to start.

The ability to hone a very fine edge is more related to the blade-steel than to any particular model. Certain steels are more grainy than others, with the carbide "kernels" doing the real cutting. And, certain companies are not consistent in their delivery of sharp vs. very sharp edges. Some just call them a "factory" edge, whatever that might be. And it depends upon the worker.
Spyderco edges are usually delivered VERY sharp; the very sharpest of any of my new blades. Benchmade was sort of "iffy" but is getting better about their edges. Most new edges, like CRK, Emerson, etc. will cut Yellow Pages rather cleanly, and that is plenty sharp.
The better idea is that we learn to sharpen our edges, and even to profile them for our intended use. That is the ticket.

Of tbe 100+ knives I have purchased, all of them with good sharp edges and 10 or so are Spidies, the sharpest of the sharp have been FFG Delicas in VG10, and again none of my blades came with bad edges its just that I have had amazingly unbelievably sharp edges on the FFG Delicas, cant compare them to an FFG Endura because for now I havnt bought one yet but I'd bet they are just as good. Also my USN Catchetman (H1) came extra sharp too.

I've found that Spyderco has the sharpest edges of any factory knife. Thin edge is the main reason, as most they ship out is around 30 degree's inclusive, and sometimes less.

If you plan to use it for office carry as well as EDC I think you would love the Sage1. I love mine, and it came scary sharp right out of the box.

If you want something that is stupid sharp out the box (quite possibly the sharpest thing you will ever handle) then look at a havalon piranta.

Cheaper and sharper than a spyderco.

THat being said I would get whatever knife you like and learn to sharpen well, or join the big boys ad get an edge-pro. I love mine.
OHHHHHH YES YOU ARE RIGHT. I forgot all about mine. It was beyond razor sharp, but i never think of it. Its almost like cheating here. :)
I dont count it because the blades literally are razors and they change out.
I definitely dont disagree though.

Thanks. I love blade forums, im learning so much about this hobby.
I guess I really should not be paying that much attention to OOB edge sharpness and focus more on fit, finish and ergonomics. I guess I can always
have it sharpened to razor sharp whenever I feel the need.
Im still leaning towards the Spyderco Sage 1 so far.

I just found out I am within driving distance to one of the largest knife shops in the northeast, Country Knifes, in the heart of beautiful Amish country, Lancaster
County PA..I will have to take a ride out there so I can actually touch and handle before I purchase.

i just got my Kershaw JYD II CP in the mail. It is by FAR the sharpest knife OOB that i've ever gotten

Most Kershaws are super sharp out of the box... Skyline, JYD II, Leek, etc.

Also Spydercos are just awesome and come shaving sharp.

I do have to second the guy that said Victorinox as well. I love my SAK's. But I carry a single blade locking folder. Along with my SAK - which has just become a used nice Silver Old Cross Vic. Electrician. I love it. It's my favorite SAK now.

Factory edges are irrelevant.

Once you learn how to get your knives scary sharp,

...how they come from the factory will be a moot point.

Darn it, I used to work in Lancaster, and never knew they had a knife shop. Enjoy!

+1 on Kershaw's, 14C28N takes a really keen edge, and hair falls off out of the box. I am slightly ashamed to admit that I may have never gotten my Skyline as sharp as it came from the factory. It gets sharper than all of my other knives, but from the factory it was crazy. I think I get my Sage's sharper than factory on a normal basis, although they came crazy sharp from the factory also.

However, like many have said it is not a big deal. I will put my own edge on some knives out of the box.
