Most sheeple friendly tactical knife?

Well at some point your fists become a preferred weapon eh? A REALLY small 1-2 inch blade.....you gotta commit a lot to getting close....never a good idea. Something with A BIT of range helps no? Also some blades just don't have the shape or tip to really penetrate much.

honestly though a 710 benchmade isn't bad for both. I honestly don't find spyderco's to look very TACTICAL so I suppose they would suite your purpose.

honestly, how much different is reach with a 2 inch blade vs a 4 or 5 inch blade. You are still very close. To say that you want a 5 inch folder blade over a 2 1/2 inch folder blade is a silly arguement IMO.

To the OP. Any knife can be tactical. For me all that means is one I can use to defend myself, and one that can be quickly opened. That covers a lot of knives...from a lot of companies.

So after defining tactical as anything that can be used for SD, we need to find what is unintimidating. Of all my knives I would say my William Henrys would fit the bill. Whip one of those out and people are likely to go "ooooo thats pretty", not run away screaming.

Damascus blade with baby blue Ti liners/frame/handle/whatever will cost some scrip, but even the most hoplophobic liberal office broads will say it's pretty.

One of the happy colored Delicas (not brown) or a Benchmade 940/943 would be good choices. The 940 and 943 are deceptively large knives to appear so small in-hand.

If it comes to worse case scenario and you are confronted when using your knife in an acceptable manner, you can always explain how much you paid for it, materials, tolerances, limited addition or proto status... Even non-knife people understand things like this. Then you have planted a seed that you are truly one who appreciates art in motion and that you are a collector of fine things. If anyone refers to your knife as a weapon, take slight offense. Say something like "I'd rather get beat up than use this for self defense because that would ruin the collectors value" and you should be in the clear.

I would say just about any folder with a nice drop point blade. :)

Just carry a battle-axe and if anybody calls you out on it, just tell them you are on the way to a renaissance fair.

if i'm that worried, i'd just use the Ladybug/Jester on my keys instead of my Sebenza

to non-knife people a Large Sebenza is still pretty scary looking

just try pink ;)
I don't know what tactical is... but here's a list of knives that are friendly looking in my eyes

pink spyderco native
pink strider pt
pink izula

also, the rescue orange 3" xm-18 and more extreme, like earlier mentioned, the rescue orange spyderco military are fine blades!

My vote is for smatchet-shiv, the smaller version of smatchet that has the dental floss + bed linen grip for tactical shanking comfort. If you use an especially flowery or other Martha Stewart-ish print for the linen wrap, it can be very sheeple friendly.

If you don't go past 3 inches, you can't get into the vital organs when you use a knife. Remember that reach also increases damage by several folds, in both slashing and stabbing.

uhhhhh.....I'm going to call you on that, because a properly placed 2 inch blade inbetween the intercostal muscles between the ribs will puncture a lung. To be honest, I think it's kind of silly to even think like this when purchasing a knife. Buy what you like, and if people freak, DON'T TAKE IT OUT of your pocket. At least you won't have the worries of a friend or office-mate asking to use your blade thereby increasing the chances of them destroying the tip etc. lol :o

And I totally agree with the battle axe idea. It doesn't get anymore tactical than that. You can tape it up in black electrical tape and pour drain-o on the blade edges and poison it. I would keep it bundled with a cape and black burglar mask though incase there's trouble.

Any knife can be used in a tactical fashion, it's been said before. BUY WHAT YOU LIKE. There was a soldier in Iraq that used a 110 to defend his buddy or something and totally destroyed 1 or 2 bad guys with it, there's pictures on the net.

Almost anything with a clip, one-handed opening and a locking mechanism that doesn't have too many jagged edges and is in a happy colour should be fine, I think. Fallkniven has some are really good for you e.g.

Also Mcusta and Seki Cut do have other gentlemans folders that look like they might do. And of course the Spydercos are good too. My knife for such circumstances is a Buck Vantage Avid, because of it's Dymondwood scales which make it look gentlemanish enough. And it has a flipper, which makes it really fast deploying, but just remember not to flip it too much in front of people. And if you prefer a better blade, just get the Pro and swap the scales.

I've known of a few guy affiliated with a certain motorcycle group who have proved the 110 is an effective CQB weapon.

I think this idea is paramount. I've always relied on this very premise myself. I've changed a lot of minds, especially people at work when I explain something about the knife's construction, it seems to alter their opinion of the "weapon" you're carrying. If I'm in a particularly tense area, such as the college campus I just say to hell with it and carry a multi-tool. As you said Charlie, maybe I can toss it at an assailants head like a brick hah hah. I had the entire lab class asking to use my multi to adjust lab equipment, including the professor a couple semesters ago. You just can't freely use other tools (knives) like that unfortunately.

I was arrested at my university back in 01 with a Buck/Strider 880 tanto. Totally legal. Turns out a broad I was hitting on had an old man already. He called campus PD (my former employer the semester before) saying I had a handgun in my dorm. I had visited the local indoor range 2 weeks prior firing a rental HK USP45 and had the target taped on my wall, along with a few empties as a souvenir. Police made contact with me around 2200 while I was on bladeforums in the computer lab. It seems God has a sense of humor. I have never owned a firearm in my life, beyond what was issued to me in Iraq. They found no firearms in my dorm and called the pistol range and was corroborated. I didn't do shit to cause any of this except for hitting on the wrong piece of meat. Got a well known lawyer and after a 6 month continuance, the judge accepted his motion to dismiss because no law was broken. The police will take any chance to file a charge against you just to see if you fall for it and plead out. Once charges have been filed, the DA will not reverse them. If he did, it would put his "integrity" as a tuff on crime DA into question.

Long story short, I fought the law and I won! The Buck/Strider 880 is long past traded/sold but it is arguably the most expensive production folder once my lawyer's fees were totaled.

go with something with a (atleast partly) handle...something bright orange, blue, purple, etc...

if its nice and bright it will be less (to non-) intimidating to nkp...
