I think we may post here what we really use most on the daily basis - our work horses.

This is mine:

I have quite a collection of different knives, different steels. And at some point I start thinking what knife I use most and why. Turns out that my most used - every day knife is not most impressive or most performing or most expensive.

It turns out that I use most silmplest knife I have. When I made it I had this idea to make some kind of box cutter - knife we made in the shop while back out of hacksaw - sharpening it as a knife and make handle out of isolation duck-tape. This kind of thing but kind of pimped up - blade is bulat (wootz) made by Ivan Kirpichev, not hack saw and handle is snake-wood...

But form, size, shape - all like it was for that Russian kind of kiridashi... I it will be fun to have such an exclusive box-cutter...

It turns out that it is most useful "design" for things like make fried eggs, toasts, cut beef, bread - everything, and of course box cutting. For projects I use one of my Doziers. But for everything else - this one. It holds edge just fine - Last time I sharpened it was August 2008 (funny but I can trace it right here - see first post in the 8th page:

I resharpen it today, just like a sign of respect not because it was really needed.

Thanks, Vassili.

my FFG Pacific Salt is my most carried & used knife
I've found out that none of my daily chores really requires another knife, though I usually carry up to 3 other folders besides the Salt, well, just for the fun of it... :D

My most-used knives are:
1. Rough Rider small whittler pen knife with red jigged bone scales
2. Mora #1 classic
3. Spyderco Tasman Salt with yellow FRN scales (keep at work)

I use at least 2 of them every day for some sort of chore or other. Own prolly my own weight in knives, including full customs, but rarely use any of those.

The knife I have had that I used (and abused!!) more than any other was my old MT Socom Elite. It was an older one, serrated, tanto version. I used that knife to cut, pry, chisel, hammer, throw, and God knows what else. For about 5 years I carried that knife EVERY DAY!! It never failed me, never failed to open or function the way it was intended to. Then, it was stolen out of the apartment one night during a party. Hopefully this Gerber 06 I just got holds up just as well..........

Currently, it's my Case Seahorse Whittler & lg. classic Seb (The 2 I carry the most). However, I should be getting my ole GEC Barlow Wharny back (On a trade), so that'll probably replace the Case, again.

Good topic.

Vassili, that knife reminds me of MD's Mongoose.

My most used knives recently are my Large Regular Sebenza and my OJ Warden.

For a knife that's been used and beaten, then came back like a champ my Glock Survival Knife comes to mind. Other than that all but a few of my knives are used about equally.

When I need something bigger, I reach for my Spyderco Caly Jr.

I have 3 that have been used more than any others.
1 is a Benchmade Leopard cub carried and used for almost 15 years.
2 is a Vic. Cadet I still carry this one almost every day
3 is a Schrade stockman.
I also have a few kitchen knives that I get alot of use out of but only in the kitchen.

For slipjoints, I alternate between Vic Farmer and Climbers. For lockbacks, I have to say Spyderco Calypso Jr.

For fixed, my favorite hard use is my Swamp Rat Bandicoot, hands down. It's one of the most underrated and unknown knives out there, and continues to amaze me with it's versatility.

My Krein reground Spyderco Caly Jr in ZDP does the bulk of my cutting. It's .005" edge goes right through whatever is in it's path with ease and the edge retention is amazing. I think my Spyderco Superhawk will be my new workhorse now though. It has perfect ergos, a great compression lock, and it's relaxed hawkbill just cuts with unreal ability. I am now a huge believer in hawkbills, especially full flat ground hawkbills. After Krein FFG's my Caly 3 ZDP to .005" it will replace my Caly Jr, as it is a smooth and ergonomic improvement over the Caly Jr.

Mike

Edit to add: my Krein reground Police 3 has been doing a lot of cutting for me lately and is a great knife. It's .010" edge and pointy tip make it a huge improvement over the factory knife. When it is warm out I also carry my Krein custom fixed blades and they can cut so well it is a joke. Unfortunately in California fixed blade laws are more restrictive than folder laws and wearing a jacket over your fixed blade can bring you a concealed weapons charge. Hence I only wear them out when the weather is good.

Hmm...
I guess there is a point to that.
My Spydercos seem to do most of my cutting when I'm out and about - Delica 3 and Tenacious (both PE).
For kitchen work I use a cheap gyuto-styled knife (supplemented only by a paring knife and some cheap shears). Slices quite well and push-cuts extremely well on soft materials. Not so great for cutting meat off bones though since I reprofiled the edge - fairly fragile due to low hardness.

I have to agree with the comment on the Swamp Rat Bandicoot. It's a pry bar, knife and pick in a small package. When I'm working, it's always the Bandicoot in an OST sheath, plus the folding slicer of the day.

My mini grip is my most used knife...after several years its still going strong...Ive just gotten into spyderco though and I think my endura and tenacious are going to see a lot of action

My most used knife would have to be either my SMF or Spyderco Military. :) Most used fixed would be a Landi PSK by far. Love that little knife.

Most used on a daily basis is my RAT RC4. followed closely by my H.I. R-10 and my koyote. The RAT's kydex sheath makes it so convenient to carry that it just rides with me more often.

1. Benchmade Auto Stryker
2. Mantis Chaos II Folder
3. Strider DB

I switch between the BM and Chaos II. Both great Knives.

Strider is always with me.

Most used is a toss up between my PE Mini-Grip and a SAK Ambassador- I always have both on me.

+1 on the Bandicoot- great knife!

Good idea! I very much like that Snakewood scaled cutter in your initial post. Rugged but elegant.

Benchmade Mini Grip gets a lot of rough use.
Bark River Escort for mixed tasks outdoors, light sturdy and unobtrusive.
CASE Medium Stockman in stainless for garden tasks&picnics.Ditto an Opinel No.8
Just got a single blade square bolster GEC in Burnt Orange bone, carbon. This COULD become the one and only knife (not really..)but it's just the job in many respects, tough spring-real nail EXTRACTOR,slim and nice long sharp blade. Excellence!
