Most used knives - real work horses.

My most used folder is an older, large regular Sebenza in BG-42. As for my most used fixed blade, well, that's tougher. It would probably be either a custom Robert Dark drop point in S30V, or a Busse BAD, depending on the chore and the environment. I rotate my fixed blades so much though that it could be one of several other knives as well, maybe a Siegle geometric utility in S30V. That is a very handy knife around the barbecue and it sees alot of work.

Everybody talking about fixed and folders...
Let me add my folder - which is Yuna Hard II with ZDP189.

I guess I was bit uncomfortable having so expensive (for me) knife, so to compensate this discomfort I used it for everything - including digging roots out of ground, cutting aluminum screen, dry-walls - everything. And I should say it stand it just fine - this is why I have problem when someone starts talking about ZDP189 being too brittle. Not at all!

It will not bend but rather cheap, but it will be very small and to do this you really need to hit rock pretty hard. Otherwise it is better that any other steel I have. Also it is easyer to sharpen - no ugly big burr like on soft blades.

And edge holding is just superior (only Dozier D2 is better), but it is stainless.

Thanks, Vassili.

second day in at work with the emerson la griffe. black coating took a major rub off on the second box I cut open but I don't mind it gives the unit character. Did have to touch up the edge as well at the end of my shift. My work knives get used big time in the kitchen where I work. We open up at least a dozen boxes of food a day plus break down a couple dozen more for recycling. I really ought to give s 30 v a try next time around.

also, been using my sog aegis. it's seen a ton of use in the kitchen as well and is holding up fine. A really nice light assisted opening folder that I am really happy with.

My Krein reground Spyderco Caly Jr in ZDP does the bulk of my cutting. It's .005" edge goes right through whatever is in it's path with ease and the edge retention is amazing. I think my Spyderco Superhawk will be my new workhorse now though. It has perfect ergos, a great compression lock, and it's relaxed hawkbill just cuts with unreal ability. I am now a huge believer in hawkbills, especially full flat ground hawkbills. After Krein FFG's my Caly 3 ZDP to .005" it will replace my Caly Jr, as it is a smooth and ergonomic improvement over the Caly Jr.

Edit to add: my Krein reground Police 3 has been doing a lot of cutting for me lately and is a great knife. It's .010" edge and pointy tip make it a huge improvement over the factory knife. When it is warm out I also carry my Krein custom fixed blades and they can cut so well it is a joke. Unfortunately in California fixed blade laws are more restrictive than folder laws and wearing a jacket over your fixed blade can bring you a concealed weapons charge. Hence I only wear them out when the weather is good.

Do you have any pics of that Krein reground Caly Jr? I also own one, just interested in seeing his handiwork on this awesome knife. Heck, it was a pocket scalpel out of the box, it must be INSANE  after Tom worked it!

BTTTOH, probably my Busse BAD is my most carried/used fixed blade. Hardened a few points more than standard INFI, it takes a wicked edge and only needs occasional stropping. It hasn't seen a stone since I put my initial edge on it almost 2 years ago.

I also own a BM910HSSR that has been to heck and back again - my first high end folder, purchased shortly after I found BFC. Thanks to this folder I developed my love for tool steel blades.

I will post a couple pics later. There are some pics of 3 of my other regrinds in the Krein Regrind review right by this one, and started by David Lowry. The Caly Jr is a different beast though, so I'll try to get a pic of it in the thread here.

Call me boring but for around town use (not backpacking or hunting) I carry a buck 110 alot. But I also carry a Hubertus lockback which is quite small at about 3 inches open. These are convenient for me when I wear slacks for work. I can't wear a sheath knife in my job (or carry a gun for that matter) so these usually do the trick.
This is a great thread

The point is to step back and do some reality check - I have a lot of great knives, but somehow when I just grab something close by when I need to cut - it is not most excited and most performer, bit some humble box-cutter like knife.

Thanks, Vassili.

I tend to carry one of about three different Case knives or a SAK.
Here lately it has been a Vicroinox recruit and before that is was a Case Peanut in Chestnut bone and CV.

Yeah I had the chance to use one of these modded Krein JR's and they are really amazing cutters. They even slightly cut better than my own convexed VG-10 JR
and I'm sure the ZDP edge will last much longer too.

I truthfully think the JR is the better of the two. As the 3 is also nice I think the JR is hands down the better knife. I cann't think Of a modern one hand knife other than the old BM Leopard Cub that even comes close to being as perfect as the JR.

Whenever I'm without a SAK, I miss it. There are too many handy features that I use. But, I will admit, they are all non-knife features, so that might not count...

The Jr is a flat out great knife, but I really like the way the Caly 3 flows and how smooth it opens and closes. It really is an excellent knife, though factory fresh I bet the Jr is thinner. I got a Caly 3 SE brand new for $67 and had to snatch it up as well because I do like how refined the Caly 3 is. I do wish in these tough economic times the Caly Jr was brought back though, as it is an excellent cutter that weighs just about nothing and can ride in your pocket unnoticed until you need to shock someone with how great it cuts. I really like both knives, but I guess the snob in me says the super smooth and refined Caly 3 rules and my practical side says the Caly Jr and it's better factory geometry (well, that is a maybe since my Caly 3 was .012" and 9.5 per side, but the overall blade is thinner on the Jr) and light weight paired with lower cost is the better knife. I guess I did the best thing I could and bought both!

Here are some pics of the Kreined Caly Jr and then with my 2 Caly 3's

Carried a BM9100 for a few years, it was excellent and stood up to horrible abuse. Someone made me a good offer on it and it was replaced by a SERE 2000, which took even worse abuse and I still use it today and probably will for years.

Go to knife, a Strider PT that sees action daily. Harder use, a SMF. Big stuff, Cold Steel LTC Kukhri.

Matador-

I use my keychain SAK classic for more than anything else. I would be lost without that little guy...
I also use my PE Griptillian when I need something bigger.
Honorable mention goes to my Boker Subclaw. I rarely use it, but it is always riding IWB, rain or shine, work or play.
