I have been studying the knives used in the old west (non bowies) and this is the result. Large skinner and small utility knife. These are great for hunting, camping and show. The handles are made a little longer and wider for larger hands.

The full sheath is very comfortable to carry and wraps around hip. The back is a single piece folded over with a hand stitched molded front. The back allows sheathe to move comfortable with you when walking. The leather already looks like a nice patena. Sheath is 9 1/2" x 6".

Large knife blade 6", 101/2" Overall about 1 1/2" at widest point
Small knife 3" blade 7 1/4 overall.

Blades 1095, large knife selective heat treat to show Hamon (pic 3)
Both about 59rc
Handles Valley Oak
Brass Pins

That's a great buy :) I really liked the look of that Mountain Man set myself. I read and am a big fan of that era of history.

Very nice, I'd be happy :) to see more of your knives and sheaths :)

Great looking set for an amazing price! Now there is a piece of history you can put to good use!

The mountain set is still available. Thanks for looking and the kind comments. I really wanted to do something different and that would work well. I noticed that many of the mountain men did carry two or more knives this sheath was orginally designed for one small knife. Looking at the needs I would out a fit for both knives in a fairly small package. I carried the knives for a few days and It was supprisingly comfortable. It was neat to reach over and grab a small or big knife depending on what I wanted. Both are razor sharp.

The oak I have been using for knife handles for about 3-4 years. Its California Valley Oak, very dense and very nice figure.

Thanks

I would be all over this set, if I hadn't just recently succumbed to temptation, and blown my monthly knife budget. But these look great, and you'll have a very satisfied buyer very soon, I'll wager.

I will take it, if you're ok to have that set shipped to Europe...

Really great stuff!

Manu, in a Jeremiah mood myself...:)

I have enough steel for one or two more, I am working on some ATS 34 fixed blades right now but should be done next week and can start. Any Ideas on changes/enhancements??

Always ready to take good advice.

Thanks

Very nice knife set, Patrick!

Just visited your website and found some more awesome stuff!:D

BTW email sent already.

nice work with the valley oak. I've been drying some lately since it's a "weed tree" around here and I can get as much as I want. I even had a friend cut a burl slab out.

How are you finishing the wood? (I'm using (stain or no stain) a coat of wood hardener after 240 grit and then steel wooling like mad for a while
