Mountain Man Knife Set

I will usually sand to 220, let soak in tung oil for a couple of days, and then sand to about 1000. I have some in a jar under vacume with diluted polyurathane to see if I can get it to adsorb enough for a good finish. Ours is pretty large trees 100yrs + which limbs break off or the tree needs to be removed. I cut to 1/2 section logs paint the ends and let it set undercover out back. I also have some in a small cabnet out back.

Those are some really cool useful looking tools. You should be proud you can make things like that. I'm going to keep checking out your site. ;)

I dont use any stain since it will reduce the contrast of the grain and wood. I am used a clear polyurathane and have used oils. I have some in a vacuum chamber with diluted polyurathane to see if it will get enough to stabilize at least a bit under the surface for a good finish. I personal favorite is a paste wax finish but that is rather high maintenance, it needs to be waxed on a regular basis to look good.
