Holly crap!!! Jim those are some nice Mountain Men you got there.

anyone got the new GEC lockback - would be interested in seeing a comparison shot

May I ask how the quality is on those Winchester-branded knives? I think they look great and the rifle and cartridge shields are very, very cool.

The Winchester pieces that I've shown are from 1992-1996 and represent some of Queen Cutlery's best work......the cartridge and rifle series has been released again since 2010 but I can't comment of those pieces because I only collected the older models....

Thank you Invoice.....though they were just sent off to a new home this weekend...but the thread was timely and I couldn't help myself to post them as well........

GEC has a 440c #72 lockback in their August production schedule. Don't know what bone it is yet though.
How can we find out?
Check few dealers, which I usually use to buy my knives. Only GPK carry GEC. Are any other good sources for their knives?

Dealer member knifeswapper here does business as Collectorknives.net. He has a good selection of GECs and other brands. I've bought a bunch of knives from him, including most of my GECs.

I really like that Robeson mountain man, thanks for posting your pictures, Boggs. And... is that a MOP shield on the one Schatt? Very classy.

The GEC version looks very nice; I've read some very positive reviews, and from the pics people have posted, it looks just as appealing. With GEC's penchant for cranking out each of their patterns in a myriad of different handle covers, I'm sure it'll be tempting to pick one up in my favorite funky acrylic (or at least with nice, smooth ebony covers).

Puukkoman.....

You're welcome and yes it is a MOP shield and Buffalo handles........it's been done once again 2 years ago with black micarta handles and MOP shield .....

Jack, knarfeng,
Thank you for the tip. How can I find out what kind of jigged bone will be on the new GEC #72 before they will be sold out?

Jack, knarfeng,
Thank you for the tip. How can I find out what kind of jigged bone will be on the new GEC #72 before they will be sold out?

I have a feeling it will be a short run since only 1 material is listed. PM incoming.

Boggs, I really like that Robeson! Is it made by Queen? Tool steel, does that equal 1095 and lastly is it still available? I have a Queen MM with Stag and 1095 and like it a lot, locks up tight with no side play at all. Thanks. John

Well just my opinion on the Mountain Man knife. I bought one at a gun show, "new in the box". It was a Moore Maker knife. I think that Queen made it. It was beautiful. Ram horn scales. Probably 1095. New in the box. When I got it home, there was some wobble up and down. It bugs the heck out of me. I don't know how to fix it. I have never bought a knife that had this problem. It was not cheap but a lesson to be learned. Check out the knives before you buy them. I wish I could have it make right. What a great looking knife. I love the design and the horn is beautiful. It is a bitter sweet proposition. I have heard that this is a common problem.

I want to thank once more for help, advice, sharing experience and beautiful pictures.
Today, a little faster than I expected my knife arrived. Dull, as expected, but no blade play  and stunning scales
it is already getting dark, but I had to take a picture

I do love that Schatt with the micarta handles and pearl shield inlay, so sweet.

In addition to the Queen Mountain Man (and the Schatt and Morgan versions), check out Queen's swing guard lockback, also in D2, available in bone or zebra wood.

As for other brands, I see that the Case Backpocket has been recommended, I just picked up the spear blade version and it is a sweetheart of a knife. Even though it doesn't lock, the spring on mine is plenty strong. Also check out the Canal Street lockbacks, the Pinch (3 3/4" closed) and their new larger Squeeze (5" closed) lockback, also both in D2 and a number of different bone and wood covers.
