I will watch my mailbox and let you guys know when it arrives.
Doug, thank you for this passaround.
This looks like it is a great knife.

Jumping on this thread so I can keep an eye on the progress.

Excited to try this thing out.

Charlie

I got the knife on Thursday and I got a chance to play with it today.
I had a blast with this knife!

Here are a couple of tickler photos

I will post more photos and my comments as soon as I can.

When I opened the well wrapped package from Doug I was delighted to find the Mountaineer prototype in a sheath which is a very good fit for the blade.

The finish of the blade I would rate as good.

However the handle is magnificent. Beautiful, comfortable with some very pretty file work on the spine.

Here is the knife next to my DP EDC

Here is the back side of the sheath

The knife rode high tight and comfortably on the belt of my waist pack.

Here are some in-hand shots

...Continued

Everyone wants to know how a camp knife chops so I gave it a try.
The Mountaineer is a little light and the handle a little too thin to be a dedicated chopper but it was certainly no slouch.

I then set about seeing how the Mountaineer proto would do in preparing a fire.

It is great at splitting up some wood to get to the dry inside.

img0673p.jpg

I had found some fatwood on my way over to the fire pit.
The knife made a couple of nice fatwood fuzz sticks.

img0675z.jpg

The well squared spine of the knife is great at getting some fuzz from the fatwood

One strike on my ferro rod (with a striker) and ....

img0683l.jpg

I tried a little cross batoning to get the rest of the fatwood into the right size to carry.

The balance of this knife is just in front of your first finger or on "the pinch" so it was just screaming to be tried out in the kitchen.

I cleaned up the knife and gave it a quick pass on my diamond steel to renew the edge.
It immediately came up to shaving sharp.

I ended my day with the Mountaineer prototype.
This is a knife that I would be happy to have along with me on any trip to the outdoors.
I love the look and shape of the handle.

Thank you again to Doug for the chance to try out this knife.
I hope the other participants have as much fun with it as I had.

Sharp Eye Looks like you put that baby to work. Looks like it did everything you asked of it as well. The one thing I really like about this model it can be done as a stripped down so called plain Jane or it can be done up with the fancy dudes. I like it with a filed spine and with a mirror polished blade. Thanks for your review. Doug

laserboy2000- the knife is on its way to you.
Someone took it to the PO for me. When I get the tracking # I will PM you.

Got the knife in just now and its AWESOME! First thing i immediately noticed is how well it fits my hand and it is balanced very well. The F/F is excellent and the spine filings are beautiful. I can't wait to try this out!
