It ain't a contest. It's about doing what you can do to get mobile.

Between the dates of November 1 and November 30, the challenge is to earn 50 Becker Points. Points can be earned in the following fashion:

1 mile (1.6 km) on foot = 1 Becker Point
4 miles (6.4 km) road cycling = 1 Becker Point
2 miles (3.2 km) mountain biking = 1 Becker Point
1 mile (1.6 km) swimming = 6 Becker Points

If you just do one thing, you'll need to hoof it 50 miles, or road bike 200 miles, or mountain bike 100 miles, or swim 8.3 miles. But you can combine items to build toward 50 Becker Points in any fashion you choose. Honor system in play.

The reward? You'll feel better, and you'll be participating with a group of supportive peers.

I just couldn't get motivated in November. Wasn't quite on hiatus, but missed a lot of my walks. Probably only got in 20 miles for the month. Between that and Thanksgiving, I managed to gain 8 lbs. Argh.

Signed up and planned to do a Turkey Trot 5k on Turkey Day, but wound up driving to my sister's instead, so I missed it.
Did run/walk 4 miles Sunday to make up for it, but that was last month.
Kick-started the diet Sunday, and walked 1.5 mi last night.
Down 4 lbs!

1.5 BPs so far for December.

I am right there with you tj. I'm afraid to get on the scale....but I did finally get in the pool tonight for 1600m. Which, despite the points, doesn't feel like that much of a workout. Still...
Starting off December with 6 BP.

Thanks for putting this up, TT.

I was hurt in November (back). I'm hurting again this month (Achilles). It sucks getting older. Still, I've been running short mileage again, and I'll get some counts posted up soon. Because of various injuries through the year, I won't make my goal of 500 miles for the year (running), but I am over 400 now, and it'll give me something to work on next year. This was the baseline year anyway. Goals for next year include a half-marathon, a mini-triathlon, and at least 500 training miles. We shall see.

I've ran a mile everyday since Black Friday. Going to try to make it to the end of the year. I don't know how this Move Your Butt thread works, but I promise I've been moving my butt!

Basically we require a twerking video from new posters. :D

I'm teasing. I don't think I want to see Lee twerk.

Just post up mileage, which equals "Becker Points." There is a conversion for biking and swimming. The idea is to aim for 50 BP in a month.

The month so far. 7 BP.

I feel you, brother. Just before Thanksgiving, I went to a conference where all the meals were elaborate buffets or three-course catered affairs.
Then, I had three separate Thanksgiving dinners in a row. Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
Gained about 4-5 pounds. Have managed to shed a couple with running and climbing the past two weeks.

Okay, I shot my twerking vid. Still working on the CGI effects.

Here's what I have so far, so like 5 BP until I do my run tonight. What about rollerblading? I don't have a way to track mileage on that though.

One more mile today, so 6BP. I'm only counting running, not walking. Should I count that too?

Yes, count every occurrence of butt moving. I'd say for rollerblading, 1 point for every 2 miles. Welcome aboard, Captain! (I have SO been waiting for the opportunity to use that line.....) There's a list at the beginning of every MYB thread that explains the points system, but since there's no reward or anything you can just make them up as you see (get) fit. So long as it's not weight lifting; separate thread for that.

I've got to figure out a way to track my mileage for rollerblading. I skate at a rink - so I know I did it for 2 hours, but I dunno if my GPS will be able to track my movement in a small area. I'll try it out. That's where I move my butt the most! I do have a pedometer on my phone which I realized tracks my distance (well as long as I have it with me, which is a lot of the time) I've been wanting to participate in this thread since the beginning but I've been distracted. Better late than never!

Walking
12/2 - 6 miles
12/3 - 2.5 miles
12/4 - 4.4 miles
12/5 - 1.25 miles
12/6 - 2.3 miles

+ the 6 points I have now... so 22.45. I've been walking way more than usual this past week. That number will drop next week for sure, unless I go out of my way to walk somewhere.

2 mile walk tonight.
6.5 miles TTD.

Actually, my new phone tracks my movements whether I have my fitness app on or not.
It gives me 3 miles for 12/1, 2.5 for 12/2, 1.3 for 12/3 (I went on a walk that night, but left my phone on the counter at home), 3 miles 12/4, 5 miles 12/5, 1.5 miles 12/6, and 5 miles today. I guess that could be 21 points. But for the past year I've only been counting when I'm getting up and going for a walk, run, swim or ride - not when I'm simply getting from where I've been to where I need to be. So I'll continue that. It's been working for me.
No twerking video here - Nobody wants to see that!

In the pool for another 2000m tonight. It's a little disheartening swimming next to a lane of very fast teenagers, having been one of them oh so very long ago myself and being someone quite different now. I guess that's life. Coulda easily hung with them when I was their age, but even if I started training now, by the time they get to be my age I still wouldn't be able to beat them.

6+7.5=13.5.

....I'm just gonna go ahead and let that era go.

Cap: Just figure out some points per hour, then. say 6. Or 5. Or 7. The points don't really matter and they sure as hell don't count for anything.....I swam tonight's 2000 in about 40 minutes for 7.5 points. I gotta ride my bike for almost 2 hours for the same amount of points (30 miles). So I'm sure whatever you figure out will be just as equitable as the rest of the system ;). Of course the real, er, point of this whole....exercise....is, well....exercise. For points. So....just no twerking videos. Cause TJ's right - no one wants to see that.

If I get the heart rate monitor that I want for Christmas what I'll do is measure my heart rate vs. running/biking and make up a rollerblading point system. But yeah, no need to fuss over points, the whole exercising thing is supposed to be like.... good for you or something like that.

Nice job with swimming. Swimming makes me nervous, I should do it more often but I'm terrified I'll have asthma and drown. :P

Walking
12/7 - 1 mile
12/8 - 2.75 miles

Running
12/7 - 1 miles
12/8 - none :( Darn English essays.

so 27.2 so far.
