movies they could now make..

I'd like to see two faithful film adaptations made of:

War of the Worlds, by H.G. Wells ~ set in the Victorian era as it was in the book and with the Martian machines precisely as described, gigantic tripods with swinging metallic tentacles.

The Lost World, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Every adaptation since the Sixties' film (which was horrible) has featured scantily-clad amazon women whereas the original novel did not. I'd like to see it done in the proper era, around 1911, and done exactly as described - right down to the battle with the ape men.

I'd love to see well done versions of two different series.

1. Stephen King's Dark Tower series

2. The original Dragonlance series by Weis and Hickman.

I would like to finally see a good rendition of the original Tarzan of the Apes. Despite hundreds of films, and multiple TV series; I was shocked by how different Edgar Rice Burrough's book actually read. The Tarzan in Borrough's book has never been done right; and, the story has been hopelessly muddled.

If you haven't done it yet; read the book, you will be pleasantly surprised. Borrough was a 19th century cowboy and adventurer, who once volunteered to join Teddy Rosevelt's Rough Riders, before he became a popular writer.

Remember "Flintstones meet the Jetsons" or whatever it was called? How about "Garfield and Odie meet Bucky and Satchel" (from "Get Fuzzy")? I just thought of that because the Garfield computer-animated movie just came out in DVD, and Get Fuzzy is way funnier than Garfield.

Good 'en! It'll need the 48 hour lower limit to do it right.
We can't decide on who for Polgara though.

How about Angie Jolie? Or maybe Lucy Lawless..?
I know!! Julie Roberts.

The kid part of me is looking forward to the new version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Willy Wonka) that is supposedly in the works.

Also looking forward to the early story of the Batman. Supposedly they're going to make it much more realistic, and dark. Batman should be dark.

Doomfarers of Coromonde and Starfollowers of Coromonde by Brian Daley- one story really. Excellent story but will be nearly impossible to cast.

Weber and White's insurrection. If you like star fleet battles in space-this is it

I would like to seeBATMAN-DARKKNIGHT. That would be a great movie

The two I always thought would make great movies in the hands of a good director would be Swan Song by Robert R McCammon which is, in my opinion, the best science fiction/horror novel ever written, and the Elric series by Micheal Moorcock. To do them justice they would have to be done in multiple parts ala Star Wars/ Lord of The Rings. Swan Song especially in the hands of good director like Peter Jackson would be incredible.

Catherine Zeta Jones would make a baddass Polgara.

I can't think of anyone that could pull off Loius Wu.

I wouldn't trust anyone from Hollywood to make a GOOD movie out of any good book though.

Guys! You're killing me!! Legacy of Heorot, Ringworld and Lucifers Hammer are three of my favourite books. I'd love to see competent versions of them. And the Belgariad, although you're right about them taking 48 hours of film.

How about Footfall, another Niven book? I thought that was great too. And in terms of the action genre, what about Temple, IMHO the best of the Matthew Reilly novels? The combination of present day action and hundreds of years old action was a great combo. Plus great beasts and villains. But who could play Renko, the swashbuckling Inca hero? Antonio Banderas?

Not sure about Cath Zeta-Jones for Polgara. She just seems a bit too young for the part, although if she could be aged a little with makeup...
Whos an older actress that is pretty hot? She needs to be a brunette of course...

Cheers, Acolyte.

Polgara doesn't age. She is supposed to look hot, not old :)

I think the only way any of these books could be made into a decent movie is through animation. Most of it would have to be anyway, even with live actors, so they might as well go all the way.

The Orion books by Ben Bova would make an awesome mini series.

Flicking through the channels last night I found Lord of The Rings. I was just in time to hear Liv Tyler say "If you want him, come and claim him!" What a great moment. How could we have overlooked Liv for Polgara? Wouldn't she be just perfect?

Cheers, Acolyte.

PS For those fans of Ringworld, and I hadn't realised there was a new book out, my name is a reference to the son of Chmee, from The Ringworld Throne. Of course he was still young....

I hate Liv Tyler, Catherine Zeta-Jones would be a perfect Pol. Not sure if she's bitchy enough, but I think she could pull it off. ;) I'm not sure on Sean Connery as Belgarath....I actually picture more of a Willie Nelson look for him, minus the long hair. Just kinda scraggly looking.

I would love to see Wheel of Time done right, but if the Belgariad would take 48 hours of film, WoT would take well over a hundred. :(
