movies they could now make..

I;d like to see Karl May's books redone as movies, but not low-0budget East German movies, real movies :) I think books teach youngsters who read this kind of stuff well about morals, being man of their word and all. Good stuff, it woudl surely beat those "X-men" and "Pokemon" things.

I'm not sure if people across the big pond are familiar with these books at all but they're quite popular over here in Europe. Ironically the uthor has been been to any of the palces he discribes in his books, yet his imagination was so vivid that books read like the real thing. Special effects and CGI woudl come into remove all the modern stuff from the senery, to make things and sorroundings look genuinely old :D

I could deal with a good animated version of Douglas Adams' Hitchhikers Guide, I would find a way to watch it all .(Ever expanding trilogy). FREEOW!!!Thanks For All The Fishes!!

The animated version was quite good, IMHO.

Interesting books that would need some good CGI? Hmm...How about The Practice Effect?

I have to agree with what several others have said. Books have something that no movie can ever capture - the characters and settings are individually tailored by each reader in their mind. Watching a movie that is made from a favorite book ruins this for me. When I read the book again, I see and hear the movie actors, rather than what I had imagined before.

Having said that, there are some books that I enjoyed but wouldn't mind seeing made into a movie. How about The Chronicles of Amber.

I think Enchantment by Orson Scott Card could be made into a great movie without being mangled too badly by hollywood. It is short enough to cram into two hours without cutting too much out and simple enough to keep the story the way it is.

How about Glen Cook's , THE CHRONICALS OF THE BLACK COMPANY? If you havent read them,do. A story about a mercenary compant set in a fantasy setting. Every charecter has a nickname and a backstory. They arent the kind of guys you want to gaurd your daughters chastity, but ya want them on your side when its down and dirty time. JUST NEVER CROSS THEM!!!!! They have a long memory and will always get even. Great, great reading.

Akira.

R. Feist's "Magician"

James White's "Second Ending" (1975)

A good Tarzan movie would be something indeed...

What Marty Jones said..
...just saw the "Incredibles" last night,.. if they could bring the same whimsy, light heartedness, and technical bravura to an animated "Hitch Hikers" it would be a winner.
