Now to get on those S90v's

Hey Poterma....Those look awesome! Where'd you get the screws for your handles?

Man, you guys all made that look easy.

Here is an M4 Mule with matte ~.190" CF and .060" black liners. Nice beefy handle.

This is actually a 52100 mule, but thought I'd post it in here anyway, since I just finished it. Material is Rams Horn, black G10 liners.

Wow, you never cease to amaze me with those Potterma. How do you know what size screws to get? What kind of screws are they? I know I'm focused a lot on screws here, but I like the way they look, and the practicality of being able to remove my scales if I want to. I'm a little confused as to how they work though; ie, do they screw into each other like a chicago screw or what?

Removable handles seem to me to be true to the spirit of the Mule. Make one or two sets, buy a bunch of Mule's, then move them to whatever Mule you want to use for the day. Not that there is anything wrong with permanent handles, you just need more of 'em :)

Other than the coin slot screws (#12-24, by the way), I use #6-32 button head Torx drive screws. I start with either 1/4" or 3/8" long, then cut them to length. They screw into 3/16" OD SS threaded spacers that are between 3/16" and .300" long, depending on scale thickness. If you want more detail, feel free to email me.

Sal -- Glad to see you checking out the thread! Thanks for the kind words!

I'd move mine, but the handles are so damn hard to get off. ;)

Oh well. Fancy handles for the M4. Some nice plain ones for the S90V. Once I get some monies together that is. :D

Sorry if this is a naive question - but is anything special done to guard against rust/corrosion developing under the removable handles on the carbon (non-stainless) steel mules?

I usually put some grease on the handle before final assembly if its a removable handle.

Can you PM me how much a set of these scales would cost? Do I need to send a Mule to you, or do you have a template made?

Thank you,

Doug

Those I my scales and you can't have them!!!!! :grumpy::D:thumbup:

Cost for those (CF+HO G-10) was $100. You would have to send the mule in. If it's M4, I recommend removable scales. S90V you shouldn't have to worry about rust.

My M4 mule is done. The handles are just sanded and buffed,no oil no finish ironwood is amazing wood,(it does stink though).I am going to get higher res photos posted to a picassa link later this weekend.

you go spyderco
