MT03P – Mule Team Fixed Blade featuring CPM®-S90V

My slabbed with sheath Mule M4 should be in today, but I still had to have one in S90V.

Think I'll sell my Mule 2 when it gets in and have the S90V slabbed for carry.
I have an extra Mule 2 blank, and just need one Mule with slabs and sheath...I think:p

Could I please get some help regarding the various pin hole sizes on the mule? My mules should be sent out tomorrow and I was hoping to order some pin stock so I can have it ready when the blades get here. Thank you for the help.

Thank very much for the link shunsui. I had missed that while searching.

Sunshui,
SFO will ship to PO Boxes. Just call and ask, they shipped to my PO box.

Holy Snot!
I've been away a couple weeks and decided to check-in tonight. Man am I glad they're still available, now I'll have all three.

The M4 version is my EDC blade, using it to open boxes, make lunch/dinner chopping, cut wood and plastic. It stays super shape a long time - LOVE IT! :D

Now, to decide on #3's scales ???

I can't believe they charge 25 bucks to ship a mule to Canada. Actual shipping is closer to 8. It's stopped me from ordering a mule in the past and it has once again.

...and mine arrived today! What a beauty! I really need to learn how to make my own grips!

I ordered mine on Friday, I should have it by Thursday. Now I just need to figure out what kind of handles I should make.

I bought some wood slabs off Ebay for under $10, I'll be experimenting with my T-3 this time around.

Mine came in and I must say I am disappointed in the finish. Both have grinder marks on the blade and are worse on the handles. Has anybody else had this problem? they were not like this on the first 2 models.

Here's mine. Just figured out the date codes, it's a JH.

Scanned with an Epson scanner.

S90 is extremely difficult to get a good finish on, and it uses up belts pretty quickly compared to most other steels. It does not want to take a real nice finish due to it's large amount of very hard, large vanadium carbides.

To force this kind of finish on a knife this size would have added substantially to the time, and materials needed to finish the mule. In other words you would not have seen this mule for anywhere near the price you paid for it.

If that's what you want go to a custom maker and negotiate.

If you want the cheapest knife you can get with this expensive steel so you can finish it to your own standards, this mule is what you need.

You should be surprised that Spyderco could get this steel bought, cut, heat treated and ground for the price it did. If you don't believe me talk to a custom maker of your choice and find out what he/she would charge you. Joe

In this case, I don't mind the finish.

It's a mule, and it's going to get ruffed up.

Sorry if my post came off a bit harsh (maybe life stresses have been getting through in my words). From Shunsui's post I can compare mine. Mine was not evenly finished like the one above, if it was I'd have no problem (and I really don't have that big of a problem- just wanted to see if anybody else had theirs appear like mine), but mine has some big grinder marks on the butt of the handle that look like the previous grit was ground a bit too deep into the steel, so that there is a decent finish on the rest (blade looks similar to the one above, with a few deeper scratches), but almost gouges in the butt. I compared the 2 I got to previous runs and the finish is much different.

I did get these as users so that I could try out the different steels, my 52100 is getting a few work marks in it, and the finish isn't going to affect the edge too much.

Sal- this was meant more as a post to see if perhaps the QC may be missing something as opposed to just a complaint, again sorry if it came off wrong but I would have felt I was doing others, and Spyderco a disservice if I did not mention it. Things happen and I wanted to see if anything was off with mine. Sorry about no pics- my camera is not interfacing with the new computer well- can't download.

Mine is finished just fine. It almost looks like a stone wash finish. I touched it up on the sharpmaker, and I don't think it's going to scratch.

Sharpening S90V is hard to work with. I too am surprised that they were able to get this steel into the Mule lineup. Amazing Sal! Thanks! :D
