MT38 - M398 Mule Team - Release Date 11/15/2022 @ 9am MST

UPS just dropped off the two I ordered Tuesday morning. :)

ETA is Mon 11/21 for me but since it's going 2 my PO Box via UPS Postal delivery I probably won't get it til 11/22 or 23 before TG, which is fine by me.

Only because I saw your "like" and because some were still there when I looked . . . ;)

BTW, still not much chatter about it over on the Spyderco Forum. Some system problems at the opening which reportedly were resolved quickly.

Speculation is that Spyderco made over 1k of them. Question for Sal: How many MT38's were made?

Anyway, given the price, the apparent inventory and the apparent lack of demand, I now think that this Mule will be sitting around for awhile before it sells out. They all sell out eventually; some just quicker than others. But, then again, some take years to sell out.

We'll just have to see which way this one goes. 🤷‍♂️

What's your collection count up to nowadays?

385 Total

167 Spydercos. This includes 9 Mules (including the 2 M398's that I just bought).

The plan is to sell/trade away the dup M398. Only bought 2 to get free shipping.
9 Mules...
If you ever feel as if any of them are missing their 20CV Brother: I'll be happy to take them off your hands, and host the family re-union...

Had a 20CV but sold or traded it away because I have a M390 and considered the 20CV redundant. ;)

No plans to sell/trade any of the rest, except for the dup M398.

Absolute madman.
It's a start, anyway.

My two were waiting for me at work when I got home from the Seconds Sale...in Golden...where they were shipped from...two days before I got there. I wonder who decided the Tuesday before the Sale was a good time to drop a Mule.

My order was delivered by UPS to my PO on Saturday 11/19/2022 (2 days ago).

Usually takes my PO at least one "businsess day" to sort out non-USPS deliveries. So, it "should" be available for pickup today but, if not, tomorrow.

My last order for the current Native Chief Sprint w/the brown scales was delivered by Priority Mail and placed in my PO Box as usual. Not sure why Spyderco used UPS/Postal to deliver this one. Probably because of shipping cost and maybe volume too.

It makes delivery on my end more inconvenient in terms of time of delivery AND also because I have stand in line to go to the counter to get it which I frankly consider a PITA but I'll manage. LOL! ;)

Update: Monday 11/21/2022:

Went to the PO today. No notice in my box of a delivery. Went to the counter and asked them to look for it. The counter person said she looked but couldn't find it. Already notified Spyderco by email of the possible problem. Asked what recourse I have if they can't find it in a couple of days. :(

Update: Tueday 11/22/2022:

Went to the PO again today. Pkg still a no show. So, I called the Spyderco Outlet Store and they said they'd do a trace on it and get back to me.

The store mgr called me back an hr or so later and told me that UPS didn't deliver it to the PO but delivered it to a street address on their own. He told me the address and it was MY HOUSE!!!

Went outside to look and the box was still sitting on my porch -- 3 days after "delivery."

The mystery is who authorized the change of address for the delivery and how did they know that the address they delivered it to was mine? I never authorized a change of address and the only address that I use w/Spyderco for deliveries is my PO Box.

The mgr said he'd never heard of such a thing. Nor have I. 🤷‍♂️

In any event problem solved! I've got the MT38'w that I ordered. :)

They're still for sale almost a week after the release. I'm new to Mules, this was only my second, but isn't this unusual for them to last so long?
I'm waiting on a batch of wood I sent to K&G before I do the handles on the two I bought this go round.

There were some that hung around for years, but since the restart they've been selling out much faster. They made a *lot* more of these. I'm guessing 1800 to 2000 pieces. Coupled with people thinking it will be practically the same as M390, the demand may be lower, so the supply is lasting longer.

As yablanowitz yablanowitz said, some MT releases languish for years.

I'd be surprised if that was the case for the MT38 but given the higher price, the # made and the general lack of "excitement" preceding this release, it could be "awhile" before it sells out -- but, eventually, they all do sell out.
