mine came today with a very nice leather sheath

LOL!

Here's a link to the Ring video of the UPS delivering the MT38 pkg to my house on Sat 11/18.

See: https://ring.com/share/c105baff-de28-4740-b152-ef708a91a676

Didn't hear the ring and didn't find the pkg on my front porch until Michael (a supervisor) at the Spyderco Outlet Store told me yesterday 11/22 that they delivered it to my house 4 days earlier!

Good thing that I live in a "safe" neighboorhood or it would have been long gone.

Still a mystery why UPS delivered it to my house, since the only address that I use for Spyderco and most other deliveries is my PO Box, which is the address on Spyderco's label but someone at UPS pasted another label w/my home address on it over Spyderco's label for the delivery.

Weird!

They are always looking for more creative ways to mess with our mail...
Glad that you got them!

Not a huge fan so far...
I refined and stropped the factory edge, as I do with most.
35 degrees inclusive on this one to be pretty close to factory spec.
Immediately found the edge rolling a bit after working to get the Spyderco Boltaron sheath to actually work. I should have remembered these sheaths don't fit right.
Then I used the knife to punch a couple of quarter inch holes in the bottom of a cranberry sauce can to facilitate the dump...
The picture shows the chipping.
Really shouldn't chip at that edge angle and with M398??
Also some staining after using it to trim some chicken, and scratching from the sheath.
Whatever, I got the sheath to fit after a fashion and no big deal on the scratches and staining, just figured it would kind of keep that new knife look after a day of use.
It's certainly a user now, just need to assess the toughness of this steel.
I did sharpen out the chipping and reset the edge to 40 degrees, I'll see if that does the trick.

Here is the one I did with desert ironwood scales and did a simple leather sheath with a small Ulticip. These pics are taken right before I finished stitching, but you all get the gist ( went with the blue thread on the main part.). The Ironwood was a pleasure to work with and will probably get some more to do some more knife carpentry with. 20221213_151352.jpg20221213_151342.jpg
