For all the owners of a MUDD auto knife, I was wondering about your thoughts about the knife....do you like it as much as you hoped you would? Holding up well after usage? Worth the money to you? Any other information would be appreciated.

I won't be able to give you a long term assessment but I should be receiving my MUDD auto by Friday and can give you my initial impressions of it then.

OBTW, if you want one, it's not like you can just go out and buy one at a dealer or from G&G. Pretty much every MUDD auto they sell is already spoken for. I've only seen one offered on the Exchange and it went fast. I was on the "unofficial" waiting list for 1 from the 2nd batch for several months and just got the offer to buy one; apparently due to a cancellation.

So, if you are interested in one, I'd suggest you ask to be added to the wait list and/or buy one as soon as you seen one. If you don't like it, it's an easy resell but just finding one to buy in the 1st place will be your main problem.

I think I got very lucky, I emailed them yesterday, they replied back that they have a black/ DLC IN STOCK, so I bought it...

    Received mine today. :)

I'm too lazy to take pics of it but it looks like the one below. The only difference is that the liner/frame are both black. The size is just about right for an EDC; not too large or too small. It fits very comfortably in my hand. The matt gray 20CV blade is very attractive and extremely sharp. It fires strong and locks up tight. There is no safety but since the button slides (and is not pushed) I don't see much risk (if any) of an accidental deployment. The deep pocket clip is very well designed, as is the large lanyard hole if you are into that kind of thing.

    Is it worth $390?

Based on functionallity? Probably not unless you have plans to drop it in the water and/or mud to see how well it actually seals the inner workings of the knife. Otherwise, it's not unlike many other folders (autos or not).

Based on its quality of construction, rarity and uniqueness. Yes, I think it was worth the price. The few other knives that I have spent as much for include a BM Infidel, MT Halo V & Stitch and a Spyderco Janisong, Spyderfly, Valloton SubHilt D/A Auto & Drunken.

Does it rank as my favorite among these? I think not but I spent almost exactly the same amount for the MUDD as I did for the Infidel and, while they differ in size/design, they are pretty much equal in all other respects IMO. Both have a place in my collection and I don't think I will ever sell either of them.

However, unlike the Infidel and other autos in my collection, the MUDD is an auto that I may choose to carry (whether legal or not) simply because feels so comfortable in my pocket. But, for now, I'm only carrying it around the house. :(

I still have mine, still love it. The design is incredibly unique and serves a useful function. Fit and finish are excellent and I love supporting small family businesses like the Hawks.

This would be a perfect knife to give to a buddy that beats the shit out of his tools, but because of price, only us addicts will get to enjoy them.

I think I REALLY lucked out getting this, emailed Hawk that I wanted one when available, got an email later saying they had a couple......done. Shipping was fast, to say the least...ordered Thursday, here in Texas Monday morning, over a holiday. This knife feels so good in hand...and sharp? Yes, I shaved with it.

I received my Mudd shortly after Christmas, I'm very impressed with the quality of the the knife. It's actually way better than I figured, it's perfectly centered, zero play, well ground blade opens hard, and very deep carry clip. I don't see how you could really go wrong with it. My only complaint was the packaging, for a 400 dollar knife it should have came in a box instead of a baggie..

Well this way you don't have to worry about storing a silly box if you ever want to sell it.

Yeah, mine came in a ziplock bag but there was also a note enclosed which apologized for that and said that I could ask for a box and/or pouch when they become available.

I asked India to send me a box and/or pouch for the knife when available but, if you didn't get one in Dec and they still didn't have any in April, I won't be holding my breath waiting for them to arrive. LOL! ;)

I really want one of these. Hope they make more. Right now I don't care if it came in toilet tissue.
