haha. well, im kind of serious. which namebrand multi tool or SAK would be best for all around use AND for selfdefense needs, if needed, so i dont have to have so many blades on me ALL the time...lol. thanks, im awaiting suggestions as im off to the store in about 50 minutes when the boss(wife) gets home.

Victorinox Soldier (the new version) comes to mind. And pretty much anything with a one handed opening blade or some heft to it

I think Laci Szabo may have put some info out on this, or maybe "The Martialist" did a write up on it. Google and it should come up.

It's not a crazy idea if you have nothing else handy.

Maybe it's better to think of something like a Swisstool or a Leatherman two-hand opener as a striking instrument rather than a bladed weapon. Chances are, when tshtf, there won't be enough time to open a blade (I was once in that situation, although it never came to blows). OTOH, a fist load/yawara stick can give you a fighting chance, depending on what is coming at you.

Impropvised impact device is probably the best application . Stick with something simple -hammerfist to the faceplate .

If you wanna factor blades into the equation , Leatherman wave , or Charge ( premium steel blade , textured handle ) . In my hood , multi's occupy a bit of a null zone , being considered more as tools than edged weapons .

Many maintenance types and tradesmen sport one .

Jeff Randall wrote a short piece on this in SWAT magazine last year. A multi-tool would work using any myrid of palm stick or dulo dulo techniques.

as far as a multi-tool, I think something like this would be best for self-defense, as it has a good sized blade, which is one hand opening via thumbstud

Surge is huge has one-hand opening blades. It's heavy enough to stick in a sock or a Foster's change purse and have a serious flail if a blade isn't the right choice.

SOG has a multi tool with a spring assisted locking blade. You should look into them.

thanks guys. we only made it to the local gander mtn store, they were reorganizing, and we didnt find anything that jumped out at us. i will look around more tommorow.
just so you know, ive carried 1 or 2 knives about 38 yrs now, since i was a wee 7 yrs old. and i also have my CHL, and usually have a glock 19, wife has a glock 17, so i was trying to offload some gear. i even went to a small barely larger than a creditcard, wallet. got rid of a few keys. cant see carrying 2 knives and a gun in the HOT summers here in Tx.

it's not even anywhere near for all round use,
but gerber's 600 series DET.
comes with a sturdy puncher.
guess you could say it's det to the enemy...

Put a swisschamp On a lanyard and start swinging.

A joke, btw. Probably the OH trekker/new soldier, as in the first answer.

The old style Powerlock with the exposed gears would make one hell of an impact weapon!

This would be my pick.

Heavy, solid steel, and the gears would turn anything they struck into hamburger.

any of the higher end leathermans wave,al,alx, tti they should all do.... .they come with a clip aswell dont waste your time trying to find cheap inventions that companies have any of these will do the trick and sogs too i think there is an assisted oppening blade on some of thier multi tools.
