I am offering these Multi Tool Platens for sale. I have been using the proto-type and it is working really well. Easy to use and no change-out of tool arms, plus it looks cool!

The side plate of the unit is 1/2" aluminum that is jeweled. All holes are drilled and tapped as needed.

The flat platen is 1/4" steel that is 2"X7".

This unit is set up to take a 8" or 10" contact wheel on one end and up to a 4" contact wheel on the other end. The one pictured has an 8" and 2" wheel.

The unit allows 4 functions: Large contact wheel on one end, small contact wheel on the other end, flat platen grinding on one side and slack belt grinding on the other side. Just rotate the unit to select the tool you need. When I rotate mine I do not even need to move the tool arm.:D

These are made to attach with a 1/2" bolt through a 1/2" hole in the center of the side plate. They will easily attach to KMG and No Weld Grinders.

The unit comes with the side plate and the flat platen attachement. No wheels are included. Most of you already have them and those that don't can buy exactly what you want from USA Knife Maker Supply or KMG. The unit is set up to accept 1/2" bolts to hold on the wheels.

These will be offered in a production run. I need a minimum of 10 orders to start production. Price is $195 plus shipping and a $60 deposit is required. If you are interested please let me know and I will get a list started.

Hu where did you get the idea from ;) it looks slightly familiar. o ya i have the very first prototype of this idea that i came up with on my machine.

JT,
There are many examples of flat platens that use contact wheels out there and they have been around for a long time. This is definatly not a new idea nor is it claimed as one. My goal was to design a unit that would accept an 8" or 10" wheel on one end and up to a 4 inch wheel on the other, was precision made, looked cool and worked well.:D I feel I have accomplished that and I am certain that the look and design of my unit is unique, but is simular in the fact that there are 2 contact wheels on either side of a flat platen.

Since posting pictures of my grinder build and the platen build I have been asked to offer the platen for sale. That brings me to this point with a new goal of getting 10 people to sign up for a production run of my platen.

Its all good.

OK, here is the post where I'll keep track of those who ordered the platen, deposits, paid in full and when they are shipped. Remember, I'd like to get 10 ordered to start production on the order. Thanks!

That looks pretty darn cool. I'm not in the market (Craftsman 2x42 here ) but I will keeping that in mind in the future.

Everyone....
I am taking a job in Arizona and at this time I am passing off the entire platen makeing deal to David at Great Lakes Water Jet. My life is a little crazy right now with preparing for a move from Kentucky to Arizona. I will return the checks for the deposits that have been made for the 3 platens to 4Mac and JohnL, the checks have not been cashed.

If you guys would contact David and work out the platens with him it would be appreciated. Production on these will probably not be until after the Blade Show as David is super busy preparing for the show. Deposit and pricing will remain the same. Here is David's contact information: david@greatlakeswaterjetinc.com (574) 651-2158 .

Sorry for any troubles, I feel this will be a better way of getting these taken care of.
