There's a wide range of multi-tools in the market. Most of them are pretty well made. Some better than the others.

Leatherman makes some terrific ones. So does Victorinox. Gerber too.

Buck is also among the pack. I have a few multi-tools of various brands.

In your opinion, which one gets the two thumbs up from you?

I have had SAks at various times, used the Buck multi-tool for awhile, but in the end it is Leatherman for me.

I have currently a leatherman Wave, and a micra. They just have the options that suit me the best, though I have spent almost no time really comparing all the various models of multitools.

For one handed capabilities I use the SOG Switchplier. Great tool when needed in a pinch. Leatherman Wave is my backup.

The one that I use and own is the Victorinox Swisstool. It works for everything that I use it for. It's heavier than the LM multi-tools but I like having access to all your tools from the outside.

One that I reeeaaallly like though is the SOG Powerlock with TiNi coating. When/if my Swisstool dies or when I have some extra $$$ laying about thats the tool I'm going to buy.

For myself, I prefer the Gerber because of the one handed opening, and easy closing. I have used mine quite a bit, and I think its time to get another one.

However the Leatherman, and Schrade Tough Tool shouldn't be ignored either.

My vote is for the SOG Powerlock

I have had mast generations of SOG multitools: Paratool, Powerplier and now Powerlock. The Powerplier lasted 6 years, I had the paratool for 2 years before that and gave it to my friend who still carries it everyday, and a couple months ago I got a Black Oxide Powerlock...its great....I am gonna give my old powerplier to another old friend.:D

I really like my SOG Paratool that I recently traded for a few days ago. It's unique in that the plier-head is useable in different angles, and that the handles are actually comfortable.

...Can I be your "old friend"???.:D.:D.

I haven't tried a SOG tool yet, but I think I might just have to order one. I have been wanting to keep my Gerber in my boats dry box, and get another for regular use.

Thanks!

If you think of a SAK as a multi (some do) and I could only own one, I'd take a Victorinox SAK, bar none.

However, I definitely love my Wave.

Swisstool. If I didn't carry a one hand opener too, I /might/ consider something else, but probably not.

I have used my Leatherman Super Tool for about seven years. It has performed every task I have asked of it. It does have one drawback for me and that's the inability to move or change tools. I guess my next will be a SOG Power Lock.

Have to go with Gerber. Been using them for 6-7 years now, and my only complaint would be that the blades don't hold an edge real well. Doesn't matter, cause no multi tool blade can compare to the folders I carry everyday anyway.
The slide action pliars offers more convenience than any of the others I've seen. And it seems to be stronger. Not only do they have the rivet that goes through the jaws, they have another on either side of the jaws that goes through the handles.
And they're alot closer to the size of a regular pair of pliars. I've got fairly big hands and find most of the leathermans to be a little cramped for space on the handles.

Have to say that leatherman makes a tight well put together package. Seriously thinking about a wave to carry around campus this year. Not sure what the rules are, I figure a regular folder might not go over well if someone saw it. The wave performs a little better as a knife than the gerbers, and still offers some utility in other ways.

I personally have the leatherman juice CS4 (blue) and it's excellent for me. I don't really need a big one and I have the screwdrivers that works with computer cases and needlenose pliers that work with other strange things that life throws at you. I've considered the Swisstool, but it's way too heavy for me and the nailpicks are the pain. My mom was insterested in my multitool so I'm now consider getting the Wave. I didn't like how the other leatherman locking tools works though.
I found the Gerber ugly in terms that because of is retractable plier bit, the pliers actually don't open up enough for a more convenient use of the tools. I think if they're not going to fold up like other multitools, then it should put the smaller tools on the reverse side so they're much easier to assess. I doubt the lock strength of the pliers, and I don't see how in normal use, the more traditional multitool's plier bit would fail.

The Leatherman Pulse gets my vote, followed closely by the Wave. All blades lock open on the Pulse and they have rolled the edges to make it very comfortable to grip. It's also just a hair larger than the original PST.

The Gerber Legend gets my vote. The replaceable carbide cutters were the selling point for me.

The powerplier and powerlock both open with one hand kinda like a balisong. Just as easy as the Gerber and its funn :)

I carry my multitool more frequently than actual folding knives. There were some days a couple of years ago that you would find me without a folder or a fixed blade but I always had my SOG multitool. I find I use them mostly as pliers since I find lots o stuff that needs to be...well..... plied. Probably use the screwdrivers the second most and the bottle/can openning cajiggers. With this new powerlock I got some minisissors and I like em a lot....actual sissors like to dissapear when you need them, it is a conspiracy....a conspiracy of dooooom. I also think a multitool has some limited SD aplications, particularly the SOG "power" series. Makes for a good fist-pack with a nasty set of gears at on end to hammerstrike your attacker's tender exposed face. I have also figured out how to make my multitool look like a cool robotic claw if I have long sleeve on. The paratool was actually best for this....grrrr, fear the claw!

SOG all the way for me! own the paratool & toolclip favorite is my paratool great co.great products bar none! Customer service what can i say RON knows his products GET A SOG!:)
