Mushroom season is almost here! INFI and Morels!

Got a bunch of gold tops & blue meanies on my property. Reckon I might give em try with a bit of garlic and butter and pasta. :D

I have some good intelligence that a few Black sponges have been found near me. Time to check my spots!

So far around me only the earliest arrivals have shown. Wood violet about a week ago, saw a few ramps yesterday (though only poking up about 4-5"), and some Virginia waterleaf (still super small, only 1-1.5" across).

Been warming up nicely but temps are going to plummet starting Monday with highs forecast mid to upper 40's. On top of that it's super dry.

Little different every year, gotta love it. :D

I'm below novice on the morel hunting scale. I have been hunting north of nashville but haven't found anything yet.

Great Thread & Pic's!
I haven't been in quite a while...but some guy's at work said last week that weren't up yet in Southern Illinois & Mo.
Fried Shroom's & Fish......Killer Good!

The weather hasn't been great here in OH for the morels and this week is just down right suckey. Snow has been sporadically falling here in NE Ohio the last two days
I've been down to Southern Ohio twice now. First time, no shrooms :( This past Tuesday, after kicking off a poacher and 5 hours of hiking I finally found a small patch of greys and one yellow. I'm not sure what happened to the blacks and half-frees. They are the first up and my known patches of them were empty and no signs of poaching. This could be another bad year for me. Hopefully it is just a very slow start and the greys I found were just in an odd micro climate. We'll just have to keep looking and hoping.

Those are beauties! Still too cold here as well though, I'm itching to get out mushroom hunting.

Nice. Winter is too long in Minnesota. And I'm bored.

When I was young I was in Bemidji. I got the impression that all Minnesota folks do is drink 40's and ice fish.

Indianaman, I foraged for them a few times when I lived in Johnson City TN. Never messed with mushrooms to much.

I have been out and its still a bit dry and cold. Hopefully we get some rain and heat that they are calling for. I just got a LE bossjack that needs to cut. Soon, very sooon

Bobby! You need to be using " onion sacks" for shrooms! As you walk it spreads spores for next time. We use any mesh bag from potatoes to onions. I have been doing this for about 30 years and it works!

Can one of you mushroomers direct me to a good book for a beginner. I got interested last year when I got called about some suspicious folks in someones back yard only to meet a husband and wife out of Queens, NY looking for mushrooms. Nice couple, gave me a quick tutorial as we walked back to public land. Haven't seen them this year yet buti am very interested. Thanks.

There are a couple websites out there with state by state message boards. Might me work checking out

Great thread! I don't have any such photos to share but I really appreciate yours.

Nice to see you Forager! I had a feeling I'd see something from you when I saw the title to this thread :) I hope you (and that Public Defender!) are doing well bro

Not a mushroom, but here's a photo of one of my past pieces of INFI harvesting earth gifts:

Thanks! and looking forward to more INFI and mushroom photos :D

Mmmmm, earth gifts.
