So I'm wanting to stay a little longer in Texas after the ABS Expo.

What are some must see things there? I'm trying to plan it out.

Thanks! :)

Nick ofcourse you have to go to the Alamo, besides it is in the same city that you will already be in. On another note I am glad to hear that you are coming down. I will look you up at the show.

Hi Wade, I'm signed up for an after hours tour of the Alamo now... hope that works out as it sounds awesome!

I look forward to meeting you. Look for a really good looking guy with a full head of hair... That won't be me. I'll be the guy with a shaved head in a nice suit. :D

See you there! :)

Here's a pic from the Expo site... a shot of the hotel hosting the show and, of course, the Alamo :)

I'm hoping to see Nathan there as well.... please speak up if you'll be there. I love meeting folks from here and putting a face to a name! :)

Oh Nick it dawned on me after I had posted that I did not mention the River Walk. If your wife is coming then that would be a good place to take her. Lots of shops and eats along there. Not sure how long you are going to stay around after the show but there are lots to see around there and it is allot of fun to see if you like history. Texas is loaded with history, if you don't believe it just ask us. :)

Look up Guadalupe river tubing. My cousin lives there and says thats pretty cool. I am going to try and make it there. I hope to meet some of you guys.

His WIFE!!! OK Nick have you been up to something I have not heard about?? I finally got the plasma cutter up and going - come visit!

You'll probably run into tons of things to see, but don't pass up the local food. Tex-Mex and BBQ are just a little different down there and some of it is outstanding.

Have a great show and nice vacation, Craig

Nope.... no wife yet, lol :) But I might bring somebody I can take tubing :D

I haven't been up there in too long Bill... lemme know when you're free and I'll make time to visit. I'm planning on going to Dave's swap meet on the 25th... you going?

Thanks for the suggestions guys, please keep 'em coming! :)

There is the River Walk is something to see! Natural Bridge caverns if you like that kind of stuff. ALot of good bands in the night clubs!

Nick

If you like museums, I would recommend the Witte and the Institute of Texan Cultures. I would recommend the Boardwalk Bistro if you like listening to live jazz. We stumbled upon it a few years ago. It isn't cheap but it's a really classy place without being snobbish and the food and service were very good. They are in the plaza just north of the parking lot for the Witte.

I see that you have signed up for the tour of the Alamo on Thursday evening. I have seen the gentleman, Jack Edmonson, give a talk, as General Sam Houston, at a Texas Independence Day event and he was great!

Enjoy!

Pick me up on your way down :D, I was really thinking about going to this.

Nick, I'm going to try my damndest to get down there. I'll have just started a new job at the first of August teaching at the PT school at TTU, and the expo is right before the start of the fall semester. I'll be swamped under, but I'm going to try for sure. After all, it's only about 7 hours away as the Subaru flies ;). I'll let you know as it gets closer. We'll have to meet up after the expo and head up to Gruene to eat at the Grist Mill. Good food and the best long islands around.

+2 on the Riverwalk. Really cool way to spend an evening (because right now it's too freaking hot to be outside much during the day). Also, I don't think the Guadalupe or Comal are running enough water for tubing. We're in the middle of a drought and a brutal hot summer.

SA also has a pretty good zoo, and right next to it is the Chinese Tea Gardens. Someone else already mentioned Natural Bridge Caverns, it's fairly close by and definetly a cool way to beat the heat.

And if you want a great daytrip, Fredricksburgh is a 1 1/2 hour drive through the hill country and a beautiful little town. Do that on a Saturday when all the shops are open.

You might also try the Lonestar brewery. They do tours, and have an awesome "horns, fins, and feathers" museum with trophy animals of all kinds. And they give you beer at the end.

I won't be able to make the Expo myself this year, so you won't have to deal with seeing me there :)

I do have a good buddy in San Antonio though so I'll ask him for suggestions for you.

From my part of things, if you're at all like me and like to find the dumpy little places with the best food to eat at, go to a little TexMex joint called "Kelly Island". It's right near "Kelly USA" (the old Kelly AFB). It's cheap, the food is good, and it meets the standard of "little hole in the wall" pretty well ;)

Sorry Nick about the wife typo, I am just used to doing that, I meant gf. The idea was that the river walk is real romantic at night. I had forgot about the brewery being there. Lonestar Beer is pretty good and during the tour they give you free samples. :)
