Must see in San Antonio???

Don't forget the Buckhorn Museum and Saloon. It's pretty fascinating, if you like taxidermy and such.

Ooooops, in the previous post where I recommended a daytrip to Fredricksburgh, I meant to say Monday thru Saturday. Sunday has about half the shops closed. It's a German settled town, lots of good German food and beer.

I'm also surprised no one's mentioned Nagle's in SA. It's a great gunshop, and has more handmade and high end knives than just about anywhere else I've seen (barring a show).

Very cool guys, THANK YOU for all the suggestions!!! :D

Now it's looking like the gf won't be able to make it.... I probably won't be as likely to do some of the stuff alone as I would with a lady by my side.... but it still sounds like I could stay a month and not see as much as I'd like to!!!

No worries about the wife comment... at least you didn't say boyfriend! :p

Thanks again everyone, I really do appreciate it.

Oh, and Nathan, I hope you can make it, but I sure understand life can get hectic and in the way of cool stuff like knife shows! :)

I plan on being there on Friday. Just a little over 2 hrs. from where I live.

Frederiksburg for beer...and lots of nice bed&breakfast places. The Hill country is probably the best scenery in the state. Beware tubing...with the drought the rivers are low and slow...if not closed by August.:( I'll find out this week, cause I'll be trying it myself.

Austin if you like funky music. It isn't called the Seattle of the South for nothing...

Of course, +1 for the Alamo and the River Walk. The Institute of Texan Cultures is cool as museums go...my parents drug me there several times as a kid and I haven't been back in a while. The Battleship Texas is more my type of museum, but it's in Houston.

Find the out of the way dumpy Mexican food places for some REAL Tex-Mex food...if ya can handle it.;)

Have FUN!

If ya want the real deal travel 4.5 hrs south and give me a ring. You will be in a different world and not even leave the US. SanAntonio is a beautiful City, you will like it, except for the heat.

Be sure to visit New Braunfels. There is a Coopers BBQ place on the loop.....you gotta go there! While there....The town of Gruene is right up the road. Greune Hall is also a must see. It's an old run down tin "honky tonk" where lots of the big country singers played back when..and sometimes they POP in and do unannouced shows I'm told.?...There are also free concerts I think out at Canyon Lake on Thur. nights sometimes as well. Have fun!!! Wish I was goin....my folks live there :)

Nick,
Looking directly at the Alamo, walk to the right of it and cross the street. There is the Menger Hotel. The Menger bar is where Teddy Roosevelt recuited the vast majority of his Rough Riders. Geronimo was imprisoned in the basement.

While looking at the Alamo, do a complete 180. Cross the street and walk down by the water fountains. Keep going. Go through a couple of doors and then you are out on the River Walk. It is interesting and a great place to sight see but there is better food to be found elsewhere around San Antone.

As mentioned before, New Braunsfel is not too far and neither is Gruene, pronounced "Green". Gruene Hall is there, where anybody who is anybody in Texas music got their start. Ask George Strait or Willie Nelson!

Gruene Hall was the first dance hall in Texas, or so they say. That's right by the Grist Mill I suggested. Neat little town.

Thank you for all the suggestions guys! :)

I'm really excited about the trip. Hopefully the show is a smash and we get to go back next year... as I can see there's just going to be too much I wanna see and not enough time.

THANKS!!! :)
