I wonder if IG's Ht'ing relish will work for a patina.

Well hell there's only one way to find out!! I put a dollop on some bare mild steel, I'll let you know what happens.

About the resist for stripes, I bet that would work pretty cool. I also just read about using a sharpie as a resist for reverse-etching of a name stamp, if it will hold up to that it should up to the typical patina stuff. You could have your signature reversed in the patina

EDIT: IG's HT relish definitely stains the steel. Smells a lot better than the mustard lemon juice as it dries, too.
