"My" being key here. I'm not dumping on other people's knives or Shane Sibert. I am on Benchmade, though.

On the one hand, I love almost everything about this knife--unique design, good hand-filling ergonomics (boycotting the term "ergos" for a better Bladeforums), G10\Ti RIL combo, super-slick action, easy to disengage lock, closes with a deep, loud THONK!

On the other hand, there is this...
Note the unfinished, jagged pieces of titanium in the grooves on the lockbar.

And this...
The blade is less than a hair away from touching the inside scale. It is so wildly off-center that I consider it touching.

I'm conflicted by this. I could send it back to the dealer for another one, but on my own dime. So that's about $25 more dollars to get the knife I already paid handsomely for, more than two months ago. I could also take it apart and give all the pieces the stink eye, then put it back together and hope it alters the alignment a bit. That has worked for me a couple times with other knives. But that would void both the warranty and my option to return it to the dealer.

Why, why, why!?! This could've been one of my all-time production greats.

Man this is really disappointing to see...im really wanting one of these...i say just send it back for another one

how is the out of the box sharpness on that one? i have come across 4 benchmades and all left sharpness to be desired, sucks that your blade is rubbing. bummer.

I Hope your dealer will take the knife back after 2 months. Most dealers

that I deal with wont give you anywhere near 2 months to return a knife.

To bad you didnt send it back 6 Weeks ago they might have been able

to replace your knife. Good luck.

That's pretty far off center. Is the pivot adequately tightened? When I see framelock knives that far off and to that particular side it tells me the pivot is loose and the tension from the lockbar is pushing the blade into the liner. If that isn't the case then call BM. If they don't send a prepaid package USPS Priority Flat Rate with Insurance should come in around $10.

My guess is a loose pivot also. Tightening that won't void warranty, so give it a go. If that doesn't work then send it back to BM--they need to know so they can fix any problems.

Receiving a higher priced folder, production or custom, in a condition that you are not happy with is, in a small way, a prison of sort . . . I feel your pain.

I agree about the loose pivot being the problem.

Also, I think he ordered the knife 2 months ago and it has been back ordered, not that he has had the knife in his possession for 2 months.

I dont feel bad about complaining about a knife or a brand if it does not meet my standards , we are the consumers afterall.

I really want one of those beauties and I'm no Benchmade fan so that should say something for that particular model but maybe I'll wait till they work out the crappy QC issues.........

I own many benchmades, all in tip top fit and finish. mistakes happen, this one sure wont stop me from getting my MPR.

To clarify, it was back ordered for months and I just recieved it today. I checked the pivot tension and it is fine. I tried both tightening and loosening it to see it blade alignment would improve. It didn't. So it has to be returned, shipping costs be damned. Hopefully Benchmade will make this right, becuase if I just return it to the dealer I wouldn't expect him to pay for return shipping and having a new knife mailed out to me.

Gundude73 -- sharpness is bunk on this one, as was the case on the M4 AFCK I sold a couple months ago... and on my 940 Osborne I got rid of last year. But to be fair, IIRC the M4 Ritter Mini I just sold had a passable edge, as did my first S30V Ritter Mini.

I'll keep this thread updated on how things play out with Benchmade regarding making things right with this knife. I won't hold my breath, though, as I'm still waiting on them for thumbstuds from last June or July. To date I've received two apology emails for oversights, delayed communication responses, delayed shipping, etc., but still no thumbstuds. Nice.

Yowza...for a high-end blade like that, I wouldn't accept that.

Have you contacted the dealer and Benchmade? Anything they can do for you?

thanks for the sharpness gauge, yeah that has been my experience as of yet. havnt gotten a sharp benchmade. i must have some bad luck  ;)

1st. I am pissed that mine has not come in yet.

B. This sucks, not what I wanted to hear about a knife I have great expectations for.

3rd. Thanks for letting me know what to look for.

Last 3 I had were shaving, and the Bone Collector was right at 15 per side. Maybe I got lucky? And in my experience, Benchmade will fix that no problem. Sucks that it has to be done tho. But why is it costing 25 to ship, I ship to Canada all the time, and it costs the same for me to ship to there as somewhere here. Just takes a couple days longer.
