I just had to share this with my blade mates.

After 4 years of hard grind and another year of trying to secure a literary agent I finally have three concrete offers from major publishers on the table.

They've even offered a substantial advance:eek:

The auction closes today and we'll sign on the dotted line on Friday.

The book is being published in Australia initially but as soon as it's available I'll let y'all know through updates on this thread.

'Hunt for the Shadow Warrior' is the working title...........

:p

You now join the ranks of us successful authors!!

OK, I never got an advance for anything.

Also OK, it was just a bunch of technical articles.

So...maybe I don't count after all.

But YOU DO! Congratulations and keep 'em coming.:D

Congratulations. Getting published and paid is no mean feat!!!! Any hints as to the gist of the book?

Thanks guys,

The book is a biography of a mate of mine. It's actually a true to life Rambo story. We're getting a web-site up at the moment and I'll point you to that as soon as it's done.

His life story in short is:

5 years in the Aussie SAS

4 years as a freedom fighter with the Karen National Lineration Army against the Burmese Military regime.

2 Years as Australia's most wanted man

11 years in a high security prison (where he competed a Masters degree in Politics).

He now lives 'out bush' in our remote North West and spends a lot of time fishing.

Whoa! Intriguing! A big, fat congratulations as well!

Great news, congratulations--please make sure to put up the web link when it's ready. Sounds like a great story!

I'm glad someone is succeeding!

I just got yet another rejection (magazine article) last week. I had to actually e-mail the editor and ask for the rejection too.

So far the closest I've come to being "published" is a couple of letters to the editor in newspapers and magazines. :(

:(

Hang in there Rhino. There's not much you can do about it if writing is your calling anyway. You just gotta write regardless.

heh, listen to me being full of generous advice now that I've cracked it:D

Anyway - it's hardly enough for me to retire - I'll be keeping up the day job for a while yet.

Thanks for the encouragement!

It would be nice to have actually finished "a book," much less get it published! I'm one of the countless millions that started something pretty good, but never finished it.

Methinks I spend too much time (and energy) writing on forums like this instead of working on something more . . . rewarding.

I was exactly the same until Dave came along. Having a trained killer ring you from time to time and ask 'how's the book coming along' is a great motivator.

I always knew that doing a book with Dave would be a good strategic move. I know how hard it is to get even looked at by an agent, let alone a major publisher; I knew this story would be a no-brainer as long as I did a good job with it.

Now I'll be able to dust off one of those partly finished efforts with confidence that it will at least be looked at by someone in the publishing industry when I finish it.

Don't knock the forums either - I reckon debating philosophy with Sharp Phil and Ken Cox in the early days did wonders for my ability to pare down superflous verbage and get right to the point. I'd often put a few layers in top of what I really meant and having those guys skewer me for that really helped.

Your mate's Neville F'ing Bartos isn't he. Couldn't be Chopper, he's already got a book :D

Congratulations Mate!!!!

Congrats Ming. A book is a huge project and to actually have it accepted by a publisher is a major accomplishment. Thumbs way up!

Not one, but three publishers. You must be a genius and your buddy must have one helluva story.

Excellent news, mate!

I always thought that someone with your ability to tell an anecdote had a book in him.

Good on ya.
