I have to vent!

I don't mind people that BTTT to get there post back on top, because I do it also, and so does everyone else. There are some exceptions out there... Yes there are! There are some formites that think they are the only ones that are selling knives, They think that only their knives should be on top, and the hell with every one else. These rude people BTTT while they are still on the first page, or do it so often, and so many times, it becomes rediculous. It's getting out of hand when you see someone's post, and the reply counter has over 20 on it, or you see a burning folder at the begging of their post, and it's only because of BTTT. Damn! Can't they get the hint...Nobody wants to buy your knife!

Come on gentlemen, and or ladies... We are all trying to sell something, so how about a little common courtesy for your fellow formites.

I'm not saying my way is the right way, but when I BTTT, I'm very aware of the other people that have posted. I wait until my post is on the third page before I BTTT, and I will only do it four times, five at the most.

I forgot to mention another peeve... If you sell a knife, go back into your post, and mark it so. Don't do it in a reply, edit your original. A reply will bring it back to the top again, and if it sold, why do it.

Thanks to every one that replies.

Narruc1:

I'll represent the buyers here since I rarely sell anything and I couldn't agree with you more. Occasionally I wish someone would finally buy the knife being advertised just to shut the seller up!

By continuing to bring the same knife up to the top, only serves to firmly plant that buyers name in my mind not to ever open a post of his in the future.

My other pet peeve are those who post in the Header "Custom knife for sale" It would certainly be appreciated by a lot of us if they could at least mention the name of the maker so we would know if we have any interest.

I'll tell ya what gives me the red a$$. I have posted a knife for sale only to find it is knocked off the first page within 20 minutes. This happens when somebody has 15 knives for sale, and decides to make 15 seperate threads, one for each knife.

While I totally agree with what has been said here, I would like to further point out that maybe the sellers should take the hint that if their knife is not selling it is more than likely that it is priced too high. Or, higher than people are willing to pay at the moment.

If I am selling something and I bring it BTTT, more often than not it is with a lower price. The seller's that BTTT 15-20 times obviously don't want to lower their prices. This being so, they should take it off the market and try again some other time.

A little courtesy goes a long way.

Good point Sniper!

Rich, I must disagree with you on single knife post... Maybe because I'm guilty of that very thing, but I will think about it the next time I post more than one knife.

I just thought that if I sold a knife on a single post, that it would just disapear.

I forgot to mention another peeve... If you sell a knife, go back into your post, and mark it so. Don't do it in a reply, edit your original. A reply will bring it back to the top again, and if it sold, why do it.

I agree with all of you so far, but my biggest pet peeve is to bring it to the top to say it is SOLD...
Nick

I find that if I list all of my knives for sale in a single post I sell most, if not all of them, very quickly. I hate to see 10-15 knives for sale in single threads. It is so damn annoying!!! Who the hell wants to sit and read all that?!! I don't, it usually turns me off to looking and buying any.

I'm with you guys!

40 BTTT's at the same price probably means no one wants it at that price

I had never thought about marking SOLD until someone brought this up 6-7 months ago and have been doing it since
smile.gif
Also I think lining out the price is much better than erasing it. Sometimes I'll pick up a knife and try and sell it and being able to search history and see what they have been listed for is a big help. It's a bummer (to me anyway) when you see 4-5 recent sales of the knife you want to sell, and the price has been edited out of each one
frown.gif

I'm also bugged by folks who post (and knock someone else off page one) to mark a knife sold
rolleyes.gif

I understand how the 1 knife, 1 post folks feel, but have to agree is ticks me off when someone has BTTT'd their 7 posts 10 minutes after I've listed a new knife for sale

Hopefully folks will 'post and learn' and courtesy will rule the land

I have only sold a couple of knives here, but I agree with what has been posted so far. It amazed me that after posting a knife for sale I checked on it about an hour later and it was almost 2 pages back and there were about 15 BTTTs.

I only BTTT once without reducing the price of the knife that I am selling. I can take a hint. If it does not sell after doing this I will decide if I want to reduce the price again or take it of the market for awhile. I do not think it is fair to butt in in front of other people that want to sell their knives just as much as I want to sell mine.

Please don't think that I belieave that my way is the only way to do things. Just be considerate of the other members and that is all that can be expected.

Narruc,
Damn ya, you are right as usual
smile.gif
I have no problem with people listing their knives individually. The problem occurs when they go BTTT every couple of hours or so. I have long lamented this problem, but moderatorship of this forum still lags behind. If you post a knife, go at least 24 hours before going BTTT.
If you go BTTT 3 times with no response, either cut your price or go to an auction, such as Ebay. Please do not waste the bandwidth of those of us who understand that this forum is not for those who wish to make a killing on their knife investments.
Narruc, We will be extremely hurt if you do not treat table 18-B as your home during Blade 2001. After all, you will be the only one who brings his own chair

Thank you all for responding to my post. I'm glad to hear from other people that are bothered by the same things on this forum.

Maybe some people will read this, and change the way they do things.

I especially want to thank David for his kind remarks toward me, and for his invitation to his table at the show. Thanks Dave!

I will be there!

Agree with most of what is posted in this thread.

The only disagreement would be with Keith. Given the # of posts in the sale forum, and the fact that there are these impolite types who BTTT like its a spasm or something, those who happen to miss a day or two may well miss your post/thread. When I've missed a day, or done a real quick once over a couple days in a row, I know am going to have to read 5-6 pages to catch up. If you're too quick to give up, you may miss possible sales.

I do really like the notion that every 2 or 3 BTTTs, the price gets adjusted downward or something. Then again, there are some persistent forumites, who only BTTT once per day, but will do it for a whole month with 1 or fewer price reductions. Kinda admire their stamina, but they better understand it is unlikely anyone will read it more than a couple times if the price doesn't change.

I also am peeved by those who just write a new thread every 3-4 days if their knife(s) aren't selling. Talk about bandwidth. There are a couple names I could think of that if one went back a month, would find many more posts than knives advertised. Of course, they are aware that folks won't read their ads after a couple rounds, so they try to make it sound new. GRRRRR!

Asi es la vida

Bugs

bttt with a price adjustment or new facet to the offering is OK. bttt once a day for a while is OK, I guess.
bttt every few hours without a price adjustment or nes facet affecting the deal is unfait to others and a hassle to look through when window shopping.

How about so many "bttt's" for knives bought and sold on the forum. Bottom line: if you have not bought/sold significant times on the forum-quit your bitchin on the bttt's.

Big Tex,
Over the last 2 years, I have probably bought/sold 50 knives here. I post a lot less knives now because it is disheartening to post a knife and find it on the second page in 8 hours or less because of all the frickin' BTTTs. Since you seem to be the expert, exactly how many knives must a person buy or sell before they have a right to post an opinion here?

David, I don't see how my post made me the expert, but for starters, let's make you the #1 in bttt's. You can make a bttt anytime you want to and no one will say a word. I'm sure someone will take over your #1 pretty soon.
