I recently bought a custom shop buck 112 last month, I really like it and use it pretty much on anything
from cardboard to Angus steak.

Now I'm itching for another Buck knife, I have looked and looked across the internet for something new, then I found out that Buck makes
a beefier model than the 119!.

the 124 frontiersman!

what are your thoughts on the 124, and any trips you have taken it on? :D

It's one of best fixed blades in Buck's lineup. The handle is a bit blocky\squarish to some but I like it. You get one and you'll start looking for some of the older versions as it's an addictive knife, at least I've found to be.

the handle does seem squarish, but I still like the look it, though micarta doesn't wow me enough if I get one I may change it to a wood handle.
the sheath seems lackluster but it's there, cant complain.

I may order one by the end of the month.

in the mean time I have this thread :)

Nice attempt at trying to be humble, Badhammer. What Mr. Hammer was trying to say is, it's one of the best fixed blades from any production company ever. :D

One of the frustrations of finding your knife, the lack of video reviews for it on the web.

I'm hyped, but I have two weeks until I can place my order

I've owned many Bucks. Only recently did I get a 124. Not sure why I waited so long. Very impressive knife. I'll get an older one eventually. This thread needs pics.

If your not stoked about a 124 then you not all in!
I agree with Tony. Here's a early one with stainless guard, lanyard hole and swivel sheath. Buck offered them with the wood handles but I prefer the squared micarta handles.
I wouldn't sand them, to round them off if you paid me. DM

Both Very nice Buck's you have there Tony & DM, Just love the blade shape, classic look.

Like some of the others have said, the square handle feels a little "different" at first, and it has grown on me but I'd like to have it rounded up by someone who knows what they're doing. One thing is for sure, my 124 came with the sharpest edge of any blade I have ever bought. It's like the world's biggest surgical scalpel.

I own this one; it was my 30th Anniversary Service gift from my company (two summers ago). I think the Buck 124 is the best looking "Bowie" knife on the market. OH

I also have just recently bought the 124 along with the Brahma.
The 124 is an awesome knife for sure. One of my faves in the Buck Line up. and I totally love the Micarta handles.

what a great knife!

I've never held a 124 with a squared handle, but my 124 from the late 70s, with a more rounded handle, is so comfortable, I can't imagine it any other way. Everything about this knife is literally perfect.

That is a nice looking knife that I'm going to need to purchase very soon. I wonder if anyone has done a hard use test on the 124 vs. 119?

Has Buck ever made the 124 Frontiersman in any other steels than 440C, 425M and 420HC? I'm pretty sure it was made in these three steels so please correct me it I'm wrong. I'd love to see one in ATS-34 or BG-42.

My 124 arrived the other day and I havent put it down since. The handle seems blockier feeling than my old wood handled model I got back in the late 90's but I don't have it anymore to compare. That being said the blockier handle is mostly a non issue and feels fine in hand. All in all I love my new124 and having one back in my collection makes my collection feel nearly whole again. I'll probably pick another one up as a safe queen/backup.

The Old Custom Shop made a few with DM blades.

I bought my first 124 in 72/73 it came with the wide Micarta handles and is just perfect IMHO:thumbup:

Bad, other than the steel John mentioned, I think those 4 are it. Even the club offering of 2013 had no different steel. DM
