My Buck 124 re-handle project

Selling some old equipment on the auction site, checking for coins, etc
I can't wait to order it by the end of the month! :D
Thanks for awesome insight!

Yeah It's going to be a user for me, I plan on taking it to a nearby woodsy park.
to be all "mountain man"

I use a Lansky System at home, I sharpen my 112 including kitchen knives with it.
its' a short walk to the park.
I am tempted to get it professionaly sharpened once I order it
by Josh at Razor Edge Knives here on Bladeforums.

I'm pulling the trigger on this wonderful Buck 124.

I don't like micarta.
My project will be to remove the micarta and replace with a different wood.
I've looked at various videos on how to do this.
wish me luck :)

Sounds like your now dressing it up. Have you abandoned the plan to become a mountain man? DM

I emailed buck's customer service and they emailed me back about the pin or rivet size in the 124

"Thank you for your inquiry. We use rivets in the handle, and the head diameter is .218.
PF Store"

interesting

Those sound like 'blind cutlery rivets'. Thus, the hole diameter is smaller. If they are it's not a straight walled pin. A good pin to use. You'll have to grind them off, deeply. Even then the micarta will be glued on as well. So, some clean up work is in order to get all that off. DM

thank you DM, sounds like a lot of elbow grease, I dont have equipment
I live in a apartment too
i'll send it to be re-handle by a member here

Rappy,

Why not buy one of the wood handled 124's off one of the auction sites? It may save you some time and there are always some of these for sale.

I ordered mine, going to arrived tomorrow, perks of amazon prime!!!
my buck family is growing, my 112 won't be lonely anymore lol
Now I am looking for a flipper :D

will post updates on my progress with the re-handle project.

The blade arrived today, I am very happy with the 124 ! :glee:
Had a couple of dings on the spine, but it's definitely going to be a user
once I get the squard handles changed to Stabilized Curly spalted maple.

Going to be a lot of work ahead.
