My Case Tribal Lock will not get sharp!!

This is super helpful! Looking at the pics do you think i harmed it or removed too much or is it contrary have i just Rounded it and not removed anything?
You haven't harmed it. No worries there. When I was seeing that and my edges weren't responding to my sharpening, it was just because I was grinding behind the edge an awful lot, along with not consistently holding my angle. So, after some time doing that, the bevels behind the edge start looking rounded like that. And under magnification, it's then easier to see those 'facets' along the bevels.

That rocking effect from not consistently holding the angle can also round over the apex before a burr can be seen. So, if you're not consistently watching for the beginning of the burr as you go, you might start to create a burr with one pass on the stone and then scrub it off on the next pass at too high an angle before you see it. That's when it starts giving that sense of never getting sharp, despite all the grinding done.

Good, i want This one to last me forever i wanted To get it sharp and edc it. Just a special one to me. Thank you SO much for helping! I have A guided worksharp field sharpener so what I’ll do is use a sharpie on the edge like you are saying and then start from the top and go slow and watch for the burr and try and hold that angle well

I was looking for a meam (is that the right term ?) that means waiting for the other shoe to drop . . .
😶
OK , before I go crazy let me suggest you go to the Good Will , buy a cheep paring knife or even a putty knife .

Sharpen it WITHOUT FEAR until you get the bur .
Again it is going to take :
SIGNIFICANT DOWNWARD FORCE
MANY MANY STOKES
VERY OCCASIONALLY I FIND THAT I HAVE HAD NO CONCEPT OF WHAT KNID OF ENERGY I HAD TO PUT INTO SOMETHING TO GET IT DONE UNTIL I GOT MAD AND DIDN'T GIVE A CRAP AND THEN IT WORKED.
( i think maybe , just maybe we may be to that point )

Please !
for the love of Bob , and my sanity
DO THIS !

I’ve learned even in the coarse stone it’s taking many many many passes for a burr i used A sharpie and it wiped completely off in 2 strokes which told me I was on the right track BUT it like you are saying is taking many passes and me just not caring anymore

It took my son in law 45 minutes with TSPro - diamond stones guided sharpening system - to fully sharpen my already shaving sharp Buck 118+. 30 of the 45 minutes were with the 120 grit coarse stone. Patience my son, patience and perseverance is your ticket to success.

This makes me feel better because I’ve done i dont know how many passes on the coarse and it’s guided . I did The sharpie trick to be sure and in 2 passes all of the sharpie mark was gone so i knew i was On the right track. I must Really need to take my time like you are saying. I just Feel like I am Ruining it going so many passes on coarse

Time for the 80 or 60 grit stone !
There is a VERY INEXSPENSIVE one I use . This is for my Edge Pro Apex but maybe they have something you can make work for you :

Boride Ruby Series 6" x 1" x 0.25" Sharpening Stone with Aluminum Mounting for Edge Pro 60 Grit

The other stone I use for the same Edge Pro is a much higher grade stone :

Venev 6" x 1" Orion Series Bonded Diamond Sharpening Stone with Aluminum Mounting for Edge Pro 60 grit (100%)

This video just popped up on YouTube and I thought you might find it helpful. Or might not, but couldn't hurt to take a look. (Don't let the title fool you.)

Gonna watch now. One thing i noticed, mine easily sliced through receipt paper but doesnt shave hair… a weird phenomenon

I’ve had issues with deburring Case SS. Not all but one that is vivid in my mind. It was a copper lock. It took a little extra work but finally got it. I’m not a fan of their SS so I don’t have any more of it.

I think you have been told very sound advice. Most important thing to me is make sure you apex to a burr on your first stone. You should feel the burr along the hole knife edge. With modern stones it should be pretty quick on a Case. Flip the knife and repeat. Once you are at your finished grit, make sure you debur completely. Just my $0.02 .
