Hi all,

I finally finished the sheath for my cocobolo Nessmuk and thought I would share some pictures with all my W&SS friends. It is my first attempt at "tooling" leather...As always, comments are very welcome :)

That looks horrible buddy, you'd better send the knife and sheath to me and I'll dispose of it for you !!!!:D

THAT is a very nicely done sheath! It's unusual and imaginative the way you incorporated the tie-down tab into the welt. Your tooling pattern is outstanding. How did you do the tooling? Ball point stylus?

Nice work.

Wow!

That's a beautiful knife, and I would be proud to wear such an amazing sheath. They go together perfectly. Good stuff.

All the best,

- Mike

In fact, I made my own stamps for tooling leather. They're crude and cheap, but amazingly, they work!

Here's two shots of my first four stamps (only used two for this sheath):

Thanks for the great comments guys!

That is my dream knife. Beautiful!
Does it cut?:rolleyes::D

Your tooling is very simplistic and I am sure you will see improvement over time - but I think not only does it fit the knife, but it fits the purpose of the kit. It is a little embellishment to add to a knife that was meant to work.

I too did my first tooling. Totally simplistic - just a few cuts and some edging. You bit off a lot more than I did for sure - and you did a damned good job for your first time.

Your stitching is great! Very even. Your burnishing is GLASSY! Nice work.

How wet did you have your edges when you burnished? I see you rolled over some of the edges - that happens to me if I get it too wet - or I don't leave enough material to burnish.

I can't believe you made your own stamping tools - that is so bad assed! I like the random pattern in the middle more now that I know that.

You dye work is GREAT. I tend to drown my sheath - yours has nice relief and good character.

I LOVE how you made the back piece and the belt loop all one piece - and then you give a little tab at the bottom for leg lashing or what have you.

I think it is excellent! Good show man!
