My CPK hurt my feelings.

For the longest time it was that blister pack Kershaw that appeared on the thread preview in Tapatalk. Thanks to Nate, i now can watch a goat twist it's head off without even opening the thread. 👍

I'll fix it....

I had heard of and seen fainting goats but I had never heard of a goat who could do what Linda Blair did in the Exorcist!

that Gaston is a douche. Nothing special about that. Lots- too many- douchebags around. Nothing particularly separates one from the other.

annnnyhoo...
a couple days ago, I resharpened that sebenza for the first time since I got it, been using it pretty much every day. Ended up carrying through something I was cutting and smoked it edge first into my steel work bench. Anyway, gave it a completely new edge, and I'm pretty confident when I tell you that stropping this shit is pretty much near pointless. It's so wear resisitant and tough, that a strop really is only going to help once you've whittled the bevel down to a polish. Even then, it responds better to ceramic. I think CR has their heat treatment dialed pretty good.

Just my luck, get rid of the good one, keep the bad one.

Might just have been too fragile of an edge. I am going to get in sharpened at some point and see what difference it makes. I'm hoping the edge was too thin or something was wrong otherwise.

Maybe it is going to be super good once I get it cleaned up. I will tell you I touch it up on a strop and have no problem giving it back a shaving sharp edge within a few minutes. But maybe that is the problem.

I'm super glad you are enjoying it though. I just need my wife to watch the kid for an hour or two uninterrupted. I want to completely re-do it all at once.

Either that, or the EDC lands, and I fall madly in love with it, and ditch all the folders till the LA & CPK folder arrives.

Now that Brian is likely to be making a leather sheath, maybe I will do just that.

So looks like Gaston is a liar. This sebenza beater of his that he claims performs like an expensive knife he admits to never actually using:

So not only does he troll the makers subforums he also uses lies as his arguments.

No, it just means I never used it enough to form an opinion on its edge-holding...

There is more to performance than edge-holding... There is also, you know... Geometry and cutting stuff... And ease of sharpening...

Given that a Sebenza in S35V dulls rapidly in cardboard, or twists its edge sideways while cutting rope (look up JDavis882 for that debacle), I really, really doubt 8CrMov13 is that far behind: Therefore, at worst, it does hold an edge like an expensive knife... Given the present case, I would be quite bummed if it did not do at least a little better... More than likely, the difference will be hard to impossible to tell, as it is in most cases that don't involve chopping...

This reminds me of Cliff Stamp testing a $1 knife, and how he could not statistically distinguish it significantly from knives in K390, VG-10, M4...

Steel snobs are the funniest creatures on earth...

I beg to differ! Wine snobs are by far, Far, FAR worse that it's not even funny ;)

Anytime a test is done under really easy cutting conditions I don't care because it has nothing to do with what I am expecting from a knife I carry. Yes a $5 olfa will cut cardboard and paper when new and sharp better than a 25. If I was only worried about that I would carry a box cutter. I also want to be able to cut other materials, lightly pry, use the tip to take a hole out of an apple, cut a thin branch off a tree when I walk by and see it needs to be done. Cut something open like a plastic clamshell package. Then cut my meat at lunch, even up against the leg bone on chicken, and I expect it to be sharp after. If it's not, it's useless to me.
