Well, I picked up my second CRK and it was surely in need of a nice spa treatment. Luckily for me, I have access to a sand blaster at work so I decided to give it a shot! I loaded up some of the finest green sand we had and with one quick pass of the sand blaster, it brought the handles back to like brand new! I wish I would have taken more before pics to show all the snail trails.

Inside the sand blaster. Also working on a saw blade knife...

With some Mother's polish and a microfiber cloth, I polished all the blue off the thumb lug and backspacer. I'm gonna have to use a toothbrush to get into the recess on the other side.

Now it's all silvered out and matches my 25

Got rid of that pesky pocket clip rub....I'm not sure I want to put the clip back on yet, or get one of their slip sheaths and carry it that way.

I am VERY pleased with how this turned out! Now I can put my own character marks snail trails on it!

Looks great Jonny. I would put the clip back on myself but that's just me. I like the silver too. I have one I bought secondhand the previous owner half removed the ano from, just the front. I need to do the back.

Thanks for sharing what you did. I've often wondered how one would turn out. It turned out great. I've got access to a sand blaster machine, just don't know what kind of medium to use. Now I do :)

I used our finest grit sand and turned the pressure down just to see what the first pass would look like. One quick stroke left, then right, and it was done!

In a set of gloves?

I am assuming that is what you are talking about anyway-

yep, exactly :) I figured it was gloves, tongs or some sort of vice grip. Still cant figure out if one uses gloves, then how does the sand not shred the gloves to bits? Also, what did you use to cover the lock face/ceramic ball? Ive read about this process before, but my memory is not pulling anything up😁

Edit** haha, you can see the rubber gloves in the first pic!

Yes, the rubber gloves are what protect your hands from the blast media. You hold the handles in your hand, or put them in the trays seen in pic one. I taped off the lock face with masking tape. The sand blasting process literally took like 15 seconds altogether. Blasting at the correct angle and distance are important as you don't want to blast the lock face area, or around the logos where you can lose some detail. I turned the pressure down way lower than normal though.

Your results are fantastic, very nice job indeed. Just gives me that warm feeling all over to be a CRK lover. :)

Turned out great. Good to know that you can get the same results with a DIY

Thanks yall! I only blasted the outside of the handles. I left the inside alone. I masked the lock face with masking tape and angled the blaster it missed the lock face altogether. After washers were polished, grease added, the knife is slick as butter and locks up solid with no sticky lock!
