My do-it-yourself spa treatment

It's balsy to take your good ole' Sebbie and give it a shot... You did a really great job! Congrats....

My 25 was looking pretty rough, so I stripped her down and sand blasted her back to brand new! Man, I love having access to a sand blaster! 6 months of snail trails are now gone. Now I can do my own spa treatments without the wait. They turned out BEAUTIFULLY! One quick pass did the job!

Thanks! I'd be more than happy to blast some scales for anyone here!

Wow, that really looks like a new knife, I wonder if you can do the same process on a knife with micarta inlays; do you guys know if CRK does it on micarta inlay handles? Just wondering if it would work and not damage the micarta. Good Job!

I've sand blasted my micarta BHK handles and they just made them look like raw fresh cut micarta. Handle it one time and it darkens right away from the oils in your hand. The way I have the blaster setup, I've the media volume turned down low and the PSI turned down low as well.

CRK blasts the micarta as well when the do the finish on the Ti slabs.

The reblasting of my 25 was a little lighter in tone, but not by much. I think the medium I used was a little finer in grain than the media that CRK uses, as my 25 was not as "tacky" feeling as the new 21. Pretty close though. It still looks like a brand spankin' new knife!

Hey buddy, how did you polish off the blue anodizing on the thumb studs and back spacer? I think you mentioned Mother's polish? Does that hurt the blade as it is abrasive?

I just removed the blue from my 25's thumbstud (standoff is already silver). I masked the blade off as good as I could and carefully removed it with a polishing disk in a Dremel (variable speed set as low as it would go) and some Eagle One Mag/Chrome/Aluminum polish. It comes off very easily. Hardest part for me was washing the masking tape goo off (tape was old).

I don't take anything motorized to my blades. Mother's polish is just that. Polish! It's real fine and won't leave swirl marks on your blade if that's what you're wondering. It took a total of a minute or two to get all the anodizing off. I used a toothbrush to do the other side of the thumb stud and it worked perfectly!

I do. I also use a Work Sharp Ken Onion flexible belt sander to sharpen my 25. Works like a charm and I keep the CRK-style convex edge.

Call me old fashioned, but I still sharpen my blades on stones freehand style and have been since 30 years ago!
