My dog needs your help again

I am so sorry for your loss!! That is heart breaking. It sounds like he had a great life with you, as was clearly meant to be here with you!! My heart hurts for you. I am going to include a poem that has helped me through rough times like this. I hope it helps you.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

We're so sorry to hear about this - we love dogs, and hearing of one leaving this world is always heartbreaking. Condolences from Concord.

Sorry for your loss, he had a good life with you. Be happy for the time you had together. We lost our little "Warrior" Shelby on 12/30/2009 so I know how you are felling. Keep your head up.

i really miss my yellow labs. but they were just dogs. great dogs, but still just dogs. we had to bury my nephew last year ( cancer ). our whole family still grieves. prayers are important. dont waste them. paul

I'm sorry to hear about your loss Dave. My old friend Kingford will share some of his bones and squeaker toys with Harry in heaven and show him the best trees to pee on.

Sorry to hear of your loss, Dave. I had to have our 13 year old Shepherd put down a month ago. It was time, and I loved and respected him enough to do for him what was needed. Second hardest thing I have ever had to do with a pet. First was 2 years ago when I had to have our oldest mutt put down. They are part of our family. I freely admit that I cried like a young child.

Marty (our lazy hound mutt) and I send our prayers.

My deepest condolences to you and your family. I truly believe that Harry is now in a better place and that you've not seen the last of him. Smoke and prayers headed your way. -DT

Thanks for all the support. today was his last day, He had slowly gone down hill this week and this morning had tremors. It was also clear last night when we bathed him there was something that caused him extreme pain in his chest.

This was our miracle dog. The first was when he was born dead and runt of the litter. As the breeder took him out to bury him she thought she'd try some CPR on him. he revived and became not only the largest dog of his litter mates, but IMO the smartest and most handsome.

Miracle number two was when we had to take a paw off last summer, 3 days later he had bounced back and a week and he was fully himself, and continued to do agility and obedience on three legs. Gung ho all the way.

Prayed for miracle three, but it didn't happen, he was ready to go today, no eating or drinking, accepted love but got tried, and said, "Just let me sleep dad ok?" Never had a dog with so much heart and courage.

My advice today if I'm allowed the luxury, is to make sure every single being, animal or human, knows you love them. And if they are any amends that need to be made, make them, cause you never know.

Thanks.

DaveH, if it's any comfort, I firmly believe that while dogs don't have a spirit to worship their creator, they do have souls. I believe that if you so choose to be reunited with Harry in heaven, the creator of the universe can arrange that.

I never knew…

I never knew what a good dog I had
until you were taken from me.
The good Lord above… he took you home
and left me with a broken heart.
You were a friend to me all of your life
and stayed by my side through it all.
I considered you my very good friend,
now I’m lost without you sitting by my side.
You saw me through the good times and bad
and never once did I hear you complain.
I’ll end this now but will never forget
the dog that brought so much joy to my life.

You knew all along what a good dog you had, Dave. Rest in Peace, Harry.

DaveH...I'm very sorry for the loss of your doggy friend. The loss of a good pet like you had can rip your heart out, but the passage of time will ease your pain alittle. Always remember the good times you had together and know that he is no-longer in pain, and went out of this world with love.

Dave, that just plain sucks about Harry. You have lost a family member and it hurts. I am so sorry. Harry was a fighter and a survivor, but sometimes even the good fight isn't enough and it is time to go to The Bridge.

Remember the wonderful times you and Harry shared, and the love between you both. Harry will always have a special place in your heart that will never leave.

Laugh and cry at funny Harry stories from the past 9 years. Harry would want you to miss him, but he would not want you to suffer. You can follow Harry's example and never give up. He is gone from this world but he will never be gone from your heart.

I wish I had been able to meet Harry. He was such a cool dog from all of the stories you have shared over the years.

My thoughts and prayers are with you as you grieve for the loss of your beloved family member and friend.

I have lost two fine dogs in about 2 and a half months. One to old age the other to an accident. I know all too well how hard it is. We get attached to dogs way more than we even know we are until they are gone and it truly hits home. Sorry for your loss and I do know exactly how you feel.
The one that just died in his prime last Thursday, lit up my life with his enthusiasm for living. It broke my heart to have him die so young. The other was as smart a dog as I've ever seen.
